Well, at least we got five runs last night, albeit courtesy of Montero's three-run homer with two outs in the ninth, which did greater damage than a hell of a lot more base-runners managed over the previous eight innings. Still, as noted sabermetric expert Lord Tennyson put it, "'Tis better to have base-runners and lost than never to have base-runners at all." It was still the most runs scored by the Diamondbacks since August 27; just unfortunate that it coincided with one of the least impressive showings from our bullpen in a long while. Wil Harris became only our second reliever this year to concede four runs in an outing (David Hernandez did it on June 29).

The loss drops the Diamondbacks back down to .500, but I'm fairly hopeful that we'll climb back above the line again tonight, considering Roy Oswalt has hardly been the pitcher he once was, who had five top 5 finishes in the Vy Young voting, between 2001 and 2006. His five starts for the Rockies this season have all resulted in him taking the loss, including a severely abbreviated outing the last time they played here. He lasted 1.2 innings before having to leave with an injured hamstring that sent him to the DL for two months. His first start back, in San Diego, went little better, as he allowed five earned runs in only 3.1 innings.

So, if we don't get tacos tomorrow, there'd better be a damn good reason for it. Miley, meanwhile, returns to the scene of the crime, his disastrous outing against the Blue Jays, hoping for better results. Since then, he did have a solid outing on the road in San Francisco, but in general, Miley has struggled more this year in Arizona: his ERA here is 4.46, compared to 3.20 elsewhere. That's the highest of our current starting pitchers, though I note that Heath Bell, over his 32 home appearances, has an ERA all the way up at 7.33. This might go some way to explaining fan dissatisfaction: many of us have "enjoyed" the Heath Bell Experience in person...

Thiis evening sees a Miguel Montero bobblehead giveaway at the park, and Hispanic Heritage Day as well, so there's a street festival outside, with food trucks and lucha libre wrestling. Sure the Luchador will be taking part in that. Makes it a particularly appropriate day for free tacos, I'd say.
