Diamondbacks 2, Giants 8

Christian Petersen

Patrick Corbin struggled for his second consecutive start, and the D-backs bats couldn't handle former teammate, Yusmeiro Petit, dropping the first game of September and the series to the Giants at Chase Field this afternoon.

The presence of Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers for a postgame concert will be the only rendition of D-backs Swing to be heard today - the respective starting pitchers both provided unexpected performances, in opposite directions. Arizona's Corbin disappointed, lasting only five innings and being charged with five runs on nine hits and a walk, with six strikeouts. However, Petit was pretty much unrecognizable from the low-K, high-HR guy we saw in his time here, striking out ten in six innings, and being charged with two runs - one of which came after he left the game.

You won't be surprised to hear that it was the fourth inning that did the damage, as the Giants scored three off Corbin to break a 1-1 tie, and the Diamondbacks didn't find themselves any closer than that the rest of the way. They did get the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but Paul Goldschmidt flew out to end the inning. Willie Bloomquist, Adam Eaton and (inevitably) Martin Prado had two-hit games for Arizona.

The Toronto Blue Jays come to Arizona, with the series starting tomorrow. It's Labor Day, so the first pitch is at 1:10pm, Arizona time. Brandon McCarthy will face Esmil Rogers.
