Diamondbacks 6, Rockies 1

USA TODAY Sports

The Diamondbacks completed a blow-out sweep of the Rockies at Chase Field this afternoon, with another brilliant pitching performance, this time from Patrick Corbin, anchoring the win.

Patrick Corbin held the visitors to three hits over eight innings of work, and took a shutout into the eighth innings, before a solo home-run spoiled things - but he still got the victory, improving his record to 10-1. He struck out ten, matching a career high set earlier this season in his complete game, also against the Rockies, in his complete game back in May. Corbin also doubled home a run (above). A wild pitch got the D-backs on the board in the second, and also saw the departure of Rockies starter Roy Oswalt: Aaron Hill had two hits and two RBI, with Gerardo Parra, Paul Goldschmidt and Eric Chavez enjoying two-hit afternoons.

The win marked the third three-game series in franchise history that the D-backs had beaten an opponent by five or more runs in every game, The others were against the Reds in August 2002, and the Astros last year (which probably deserves an asterisk). The Dodgers and Giants are still playing San Francisco, but it looks like the Dodgers have broken through and currently have a three-run edge. That will put them in second, with our lead 4.5 games over them, as they come to town tomorrow to start a three-game series'

imstillhungry95 will be along with the full recap in a bit. Should be suitably upbeat, considering this was our best series performance in a very long time.
