The Diamondbacks have announced that INF (no offense) Willie Bloomquist has been placed on the 15-Day Disabled List with a left hand contusion. The injury is, presumably, from being hit by a pitch there by the Nationals' Tyler Clippard a week ago. In his place, the D'Backs have called up OF Tony Campana from AAA Reno. As you may recall, Campana was acquired in the offseason from the Cubs for two low-level minor league pitchers.
Bloomquist started off the season on the DL with an oblique strain, and had just come back to the Diamondbacks earlier in June. In 79 Plate Appearances, he put up a line of .292/.342/.347 batting mostly in the 2 spot at Second Base before Aaron Hill's activation last week.
Campana has put up a line of .288/.350/.361 in Reno this season. He's known as a speedster and has 24 stolen bases on the year thus far, including three right here:
Campana will be in the lineup against the Mets tonight and batting leadoff.
(It should also be noted that Campana has the honor of having the angriest reaction I've ever seen live over a bad call)
