The D-backs named Chris Owings the organization's Minor League Player of the Month for June. Owings became the first player to win the award three consecutive months. The 2013 PCL Mid-Season All-Star collected 45 hits in June, tied for the most in all professional baseball (Grant Green, Athletics) and became the first player in Reno's history to record 40 or more hits in three consecutive months. He currently leads all of professional baseball in hits (130), a dozen more than Miguel Cabrera and 17 more than any Minor Leaguer. He was also added to the All-Star Futures Game roster, which takes place in New York on July 14.
Double-A Mobile left-handed pitcher David Holmberg won the pitching award, going 3-1 with a 1.75 ERA (7 ER in 36.0 IP) with 27 strikeouts in 5 starts in June for the BayBears. He held opponents to a .164 batting average (20-for-122) during the month, giving up 1 run or less in 4 or his 5 starts. The southpaw led the Southern League in innings pitched during the month and currently leads the league in innings (109.2) and ranks sixth in ERA (2.45). Holmberg threw his second career complete game on June 17, a 1-hitter which led the BayBears to their third consecutive Southern League playoff berth.

Reno 9, Salt Lake 3: Owings celebrated his success with a hit and two runs driven in, as the Aces used a six-run second to beat the Bees in Reno. CF Brad Snyder and C Tuffy Gosewisch had three-hit nights, and Josh Wilson had two hits, including his first homer. Nate Adcock allowed three runs over 5.1 innings for the win, on four hits and a pair of walks.
Mobile 6 @ Mississippi 1: Archie Bradley struggled through four innings on 82 pitches, scattering seven hits and a walk, with only two strikeouts, but held the Braves to one run. The Bay Bears broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh by scoring four times: SS Nick Ahmed and 3B Garrett Weber each had three hits, the latter driving in two, while RF Dustin Martin homered and singled.
Visalia 6, Stockton 5: The Rawhide almost let this get away. Running out to a 5-0 lead after three, they allowed the Ports to climb back, and tied the game at five in the ninth. But Visalia walked off in the ninth, after two walks were followed by a bunt and throwing error. Rehabbing DH Adam Eaton homered and singled, and starter Cody Wheeler struck out nine over 4.1 innings.
South Bend 2, Fort Wayne 0: Brad Allen, Kyle Schepel and Jose Jose combined to one-hit the Tincaps, with Allen working seven innings and allowing the only hit, striking out four while walking none. The Silver Hawks got only four hits themselves, two by 2B Fidel Pena, and went 0-for-7 with RISP, but scored two in the second, and the pitching made it stand the rest of the way.
Hillsboro 2 @ Eugene 3: This one got interesting late, after being scoreless into the seventh. The Hops took the lead in the ninth on a solo shot by LF Tyler Linton, but couldn't hold on in the bottom half, and then let the Emeralds walk off in the 11th. Our first-round pick, Braden Shipley, made his pro debut, throwing a pair of scoreless innings, on one hit with no walks, striking out two.
Missoula 1/2, Billings 7/4: The Osprey were swept in a double-header. Game One saw Missoula commit four errors, leading to six unearned runs as they went down 7-1. C Stryker Trahan hit his second HR of the season, for the Osprey's only score. Game Two was closer, but the Mustangs prevailed 4-2, and the Osprey were held to only two hits. Both games were seven-inning contests.
