Trevor Cahill took the mound in his first rehab start since going on the disabled list almost four weeks ago in an AZL Rookie League game. He pitched 5 innings allowing just one unearned run on 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 9. No point in paying any attention to the stats because it's against the lowest level of competition anywhere. The important thing is he went 5 innings and got in a decent pitch load. The biggest question on everyone's mind is probably where does he fit in. It's hard not to think he may be destined to take Ian Kennedy's spot in the rotation if there isn't some magical turnaround for Kennedy soon. Kennedy's performance of late doesn't warrant much confidence by anyone that a magical turnaround is imminent, and it may be tough for the powers that be to just bench him. I'm just wondering how many more starts does he get? Discuss.

Triple A: Reno 3 @ Las Vegas 5. Mike Bolsinger had a little bumpier start than he's been posting but it was hardly a disaster. He didn't get out of the 6th before allowing 4 runs on 10 hits. Alfredo Marte led the offense with 3 hits and 2 RBI.
Double A: Mobile 13 @ Birmingham 2. The offense rocked the Barons to the tune of 14 hits and 13 runs featuring Justin Greene's 3 hits and 4 RBI. It made for a reduced-pressure start for Mark Serrano who upped his record to 4-0 for holding the opposition to 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks over 6 innings while striking out 7. Nick Ahmed went 2 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.
High A: Visalia 6 Stockton 5. The Rawhide got out to a comfortable 6-2 lead through 6 innings and hung on for the one-run victory. Eddie McKiernan was decent going 7 innings and allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. RJ Hively made it interesting in the 9th when he allowed 1 run and left runners on 1st and 2nd when he struck out the final batter for his 6th save. Jon Griffin paced a balanced offense with 2 hits, a walk and an RBI.
Low A: South Bend 7 Lake County 4. South Bend got out to an early 4-0 lead in the 1st inning on the back of a Rudy Flores 3-run homer and cruised to a comfortable win. Flores went 3 for 4 with a double to go along with his big blow. Brad Allen got the win going 6 innings and allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. Enrique Burgos pitched the 9th for his 12th save. Fidel Pena and Socrates Brito each contributed a pair of singles to the cause.
Short Season A: Hillsboro 1 @ Salem-Keizer 0. Ross Gerdeman had a stellar start tossing 7 shutout innings on 7 hits and a walk while striking out 5. Daniel Gibson pitched a nervous 9th for his 2nd save. The Hops lone run came in the 9th on a Cesar Carrasco single. Yogey Perez-Ramos went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles.
Rookie: Missoula 9 Great Falls 6. The Osprey scored 6 in the 3rd and 3 in the 5th as they cruised to the 9-6 win. Stryker Trahan led the ofense going 2 for 3 with a walk, 2 doubles, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Jake Mayers had a double and 4 RBI while Joe Munoz went 1 for 2 with a walk, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Munoz is hitting .405 in his last 10 games and has a 1.080 OPS for the month of July.
AZL Rookie: Dbacks 4 Angels 5. Trevor Cahill started a rehab assignment for the Dbacks and surrendered one unearned run on 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 9. But they couldn't hold the 4-1 lead as Ryan Doran allowed 2 runs in the 7th and 2 more in the 8th. To be fair though the defense didn't help matters with 5 errors. Justin Williams went 2 for 4 and hit his 1st professional home run. Matt Vinson also hit his 1st professional home run, a 3-run shot in the 2nd that built the early lead.
