Diamondbacks 1, Mets 9

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

Patrick Corbin's winning streak came to an end, the Mets putting together a seven-run seventh around a rain delay, as the Diamondbacks lost their fifth in a row at Citi Field tonight.

Corbin didn't pitch badly through the front six innings, with only a couple of hits allowed over that time. However, one of those left the yard, and although Martin Prado responded with his seventh home-run of the year, tying the game in the top of the seventh, Corbin couldn't retire a batter in the bottom half. All four Mets he faced reached base, giving the home team back the lead, before the umpires called a halt to proceedings, mostly due to the pooling of water that was taking place on the infield. Brad Ziegler replaced Corbin, but allowed all three inherited runners to score, then three more on his account, courtesy of Ziegler and Will Harris, as the Mets batted around and scored seven.

Meanwhile, the Arizona offense again struggled to put anything significant together. Prado finished a triple short of the cycle, but otherwise there was little to speak of: Jason Kubel reached base safely three times, on a single and pair of walk. However, somehow, the D-backs lead in the division remained at 1.5 games, with the Padres losing, the Rockies about to, and the Giants being no-hit by the Cincinnati Reds. The Dodgers beat the Rockies, however, and have climbed out of the NL West cellar for the first time since May 5. They're 2.5 games back of us now.

Tomorrow, the D-backs send Randall Delgado to the mound, taking on Mets' phenom, Matt Harvey. So it's not going to get any easier on this road-trip...
