We're BAAAAAACK! Five days since the last time I had to do one of these, so maybe a quick summary of what you missed. In that time, the Diamondbacks have lost one Hispanic-language commentator, and gained one Hispanic-cultural mascot. Eric Hinske has gone from Reno. Shaun Camp has arrived there. Paul Goldschmidt got an All-Star double, but Patrick Corbin took an All-Star loss. However, there are still 67 games left on the schedule, and the Diamondbacks remain (for now) 2 1/2 up in the National League West, as the second-half starts. We begin it with a ten-game run, three on the road here in San Francisco, then seven at home against the Cubs and Padres.

We begin the second half as we ended the first - with Ian Kennedy taking the mound for the Diamondbacks. I do, however, hope this start goes a great deal better than the last one, where the lowly Brewers tagged him with a loss in short order. However, when Kenned\y saw the Giants in San Francisco back in April, he got the job done, taking a shutout into the seventh and allowing one run over six innings of work. He got a no-decision, as David Hernandez allowed a game-tying homer in the ninth, before a Wil Nieves sacrifice fly allowed us to snatch victory in the 10th inning. I'm hoping for a less dramatic victory tonight. Let's ease into this second half, m'kay?

Elsewhere in the tight competition which is the National League West, we see the Dodgers taking on the Nationals in Washington - Los Angeles are 2-1 up, Washington looking about to waste a based loaded, no outs situation - San Diego just got under way in St. Louis, and the Rockies are hosting our next visitors, the Cubs. I suspect as we get closer to the end of the season, the scoreboard watching is going to become really intense, but even now, I'm probably going to find myself checking the other games in progress with more than usual interest. BattleMoses on the recap, I'm sure 'charmer will chip in with some thoughts as she's attending the game. Last I heard was:

"Chilly"? What's that?
