Diamondbacks 5, Dodgers 7

Los Angeles came into the game looking to Hyun-Jin Ryu to close out a sweep of the Diamondbacks on the road, but Arizona's offense finally woke up from a few game's slumber and fought back in the early innings. Aaron Hill started the scoring off early with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, while Paul Goldschmidt added two RBIs to his NL leading total with a double in the fifth inning.

Tyler Skaggs didn't have the kind of start we would have liked, giving up three runs and leaving the game with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the fifth. But the bullpen stepped in nicely, with a solo home run to Adrian Gonzalez the only run allowed by our relievers. The defense also did their best, with Cody Ross making a home run saving catch to rob Mark Ellis in the top of the first, and A.J. Pollock making a highlight reel dive in the third to stop another potential hit for him. Heath Bell took the mound with a one run lead in the ninth and got two quick outs, but a walk and a single put two runners on, and an A.J. Ellis single tied the game. Bell kept the damage at one run, and the Diamondbacks and Dodgers went into extra innings.

Heading into extra innings, the Diamondbacks turned to Josh Collmenter, who held the line for several innings. But things turned in the fourteenth, as he gave up back to back home runs to Hanley Ramirez and A.J. Ellis to start the inning. Tony Sipp came in to stop the bleeding, but it wasn't enough, as the offense couldn't do anything more than get Miguel Montero to second base, and Los Angeles swept Arizona, pulling within 1.5 games of the Diamondbacks in the standings.
