Dodgers 6, Diamondbacks 1 - Offense's Whereabouts: Unknown

I get the feeling this is only the beginning... - Christian Petersen

In a rematch of Ian Kennedy against the Los Angeles Dodgers, tonight, the Dodgers came out ahead. They took advantage of Kennedy’s mistakes and played cleaner baseball than Arizona tonight. But there’s still one more game to go in the series.

Record: 47-43. Pace: 85-77. NL West Lead: +2.5

The Dodgers scored early and often off of Ian Kennedy. They had back-to-back singles to open the 2nd inning, though after a double-play ball and with the pitcher up next, it looked like Kennedy might get out of the jam. But, new Dodger starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco drank out of the same glass as Zach Grienke did yesterday, and the ball dropped in front of Gerardo Parra to score A.J. Ellis and put the Dodgers on the scoreboard with a 1-0 lead.

Andre Ethier singled to lead off the 4th inning. He successfully stole second base, and took third when Miguel Montero's throw went into center field. Ethier nearly scored right then when Adam Eaton's throw got by everybody in the infield, but luckily it bounced off of the front of the dugout fencing and right back at Kennedy. The Diamondbacks brought the infield in and Skip Schumaker hit it right at Aaron Hill, but he bobbled it and Ethier scored on the groundout, making it 2-0 Los Angeles.

The Dodgers kept adding on, though it ended up that two runs was enough to beat the D'backs tonight. In the 5th, Nolasco hit a leadoff double to the wall in right center. Carl Crawford bunted and was safe at first, and Yasiel Puig walked. Adrian Gonzalez hit a fly ball deep to center field that normally Eaton would have no trouble with, but he stumbled and just missed it, and two runners scored. (Puig was out easily at home on the throws back to the infield.)

At 91 pitches and clearly not having his best stuff tonight, it was a little surprising to see Kennedy go back out for the 6th inning. And it showed. Schumaker led off the inning with single, but with two out, Kennedy walked both Crawford and Puig to load bases. Tony Sipp came in and gave up a single to Gonzalez, two more runners came around home, and the score was 6-0.

The Diamondbacks offense has been missing from this recap so far because they were largely missing from the game tonight. Paul Goldschmidt singled with two outs in the 1st inning, Didi Gregorius singled to lead off the 2nd inning, and Martin Prado reached on an error to lead off the 5th inning. That was it - no walks all night - until the 7th inning. Arizona finally got on the scoreboard after Aaron Hill hit a one-out double and scored on a two-out single from Prado. Cody Ross doubled in the 8th but he was stranded, and the diamondbacks dropped the second game of the series by a final score of 6 to 1.

Of course, the evening wouldn't be complete without some drama. Way back in the 1st inning, Kennedy had hit Hanley Ramirez in the shoulder with a breaking ball. Well, with two out in the 9th inning, Ronald Belisario hit Montero on his back foot. After the game, Belisario claimed that was an accident, and that the Dodgers' feud with the D'backs isn't over yet (because that wasn't the revenge he had planned, apparently). Both benches were warned after the hit-by-pitch, and we'll see if the umpires carry that over to tomorrow...

There were 30 people in the gameday thread tonight, making an even 800 comments. Clefo was the only one in the century club, with soco and ZM over 80. All present were: Baseballdad, BulldogsNotZags, Clefo, Darkrose, Diamondhacks, Fangdango, GuruB, Husk, Jim McLennan, JoeCB1991, Marc Fournier, Rockkstarr12, Taylor Maricle, TolkienBard, TucsonPete, Zavada's Moustache, asteroid, azshadowwalker, cheese1213, coldblueAZ, edbigghead, hotclaws, imstillhungry95, luckycc, onedotfive, preston.salisbury, rd33, snakecharmer, soco, and xmet. Preston had a funny quip about the troll that we banned earlier tonight, but since he/she was a troll, they don't deserve to have their name mentioned again here.

See you tomorrow night, same time, same place. Come back to see if the drama continues...
