The news isn't good for RHP Daniel Hudson. After complaining of some sore elbow stiffness a week ago doctors have confirmed that he has re-torn his UCL.
He will most certainly not be available for the rest of the season, however the team is exploring all of their options according to the article on ArizonaSports.com. It is expected that he will need Tommy John surgery a second time.
For the Diamondbacks this takes away an option they were hoping to have soon that could potentially bolster the somewhat up and down starting rotation. It would have been difficult for Gibson and staff to find an appropriate place to put the right hander and would have had to send someone down or make a trade to find him a spot.
This latest injury news is potentially good news for Tyler Skaggs who has appeared to be the best option for the DBacks. He has already taken over the spot of Brandon McCarthy who has recently re-aggravated his right shoulder injury which has plagued him for the last 4 years. It was assumed that if McCarthy was still on the DL when Hudson was ready, that Skaggs would be sent back down for the more seasoned veteran in Hudson. With this latest news Skaggs will undoubtedly continue to be the starter in place of Brandon McCarthy.
