Diamondbacks 2, Braves 6

USA TODAY Sports

Trevor Cahill's miserable month continued as Atlanta pounded our sinker-baller for a trio of home-runs, completing the sweep over Arizona at Turner Field this afternoon.

The Diamondbacks got on the board first, as A.J. Pollock singled to lead things off, coming around to score, though it could have gone better, as he did so on a Paul Goldschmidt double-play. Ironically, the Diamondbacks' other run also crossed home-plate in identical fashion, Pollock scoring in the sixth inning on a Goldie double-play. Unfortunately, in between those tallies, the Braves got six of their own. They tied it up in the second on a Brian McCann honer, but a key play came in the third, when Justin Upton just legged out what would have been an inning-ending double-play. The next batter cranked a three-run shot to give Atlanta a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Another former D-back, Dan Uggla added a two-run homer in the fifth, and Trevor Cahill's day was done after 4.1 innings. He was tagged for all six runs, on seven hits and four walks, with three strikeouts, and he can only hope that July is kinder than June. Arizona did get the tying run to the plate with one out in the seventh, but Jason Kubel struck out and Pollock flew out. Pollock, Martin Prado and Gerardo Parra each had two hits, but the D-backs could see their lead in the NL West shrink to one-half of a game, if the Rockies beat the Giants in the Sunday night game. Arizona now heads for New York and four against the Mets as they start the second half.

Joshua will be along with the guest recap later, so stay tuned for that.
