Diamondbacks 4, Reds 3

Norm Hall

Jason Kubel hit a two-run single off of Aroldis Chapman to get the D'Backs a come from behind victory.

There were very depressing aspects to this game, but it ended well enough. Mike Leake had a perfect game through 5 and 2/3rds innings, but that wasn't the most depressing part of this game. Nope, it was Heath Bell giving up a two-run homer to Jay Bruce to give the Reds a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning.

However, in the bottom of the ninth magic happened. Paul Goldschmidt got a leadoff infield single, and Miguel Montero and Cody Ross drew walks. This brought up Jason Kubel, who lined the second pitch he saw from Aroldis Chapman into the outfield and scored the tying and winning runs.

The Reds got on the board first in the second inning with a Jay Bruce solo shot off of Patrick Corbin (who failed to get his tenth win again, though through no fault of his own, again.)

Leake retired the first 17 batters he faced, but his perfecto was broken up by a Corbin double in the sixth. Gerardo Parra followed it up with a two run shot to make it 2-1.

The D'Backs go for the sweep tomorrow, it would be fun!
