Paul Goldschmidt and Joey Votto went head-to-head Friday night with Paul Goldschmidt and the Diamondbacks getting the better of the contest, blowing out the Cincinnati Reds 11-5.

Quick Quotes

"We need to keep him healthy, don't we?" D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's huge for our team. He's our nucleus."

Kirk Gibson on Paul Goldschmidt

"He's not locating the ball well," Gibson said. "The good Wade Miley throws aggressively; he just couldn't get anything over tonight.

Kirk Gibson on the struggles of Wade Miley

"That was a great job tonight up and down the lineup," Goldschmidt said. "We're going to struggle sometimes, but we play hard every night and give ourselves a chance to win. It was nice to get out and score some runs, then tack on more to put the game out of reach."

Paul Goldschmidt on the Diamondbacks' offensive outburst

"It was a fun game against a really good team," Kubel said. "As long as we win, it doesn't matter how it happens, but tonight felt good."

Diamondbacks Take First Game in Showdown Between All-Star First Basemen

The Cincinnati Reds first basemen, Joey Votto demonstrated to fans at Chase Field just why he's considered by many to be the best in the league, if not MLB, at his position, going 3-4 with a home run and two RBIs. However, not to be outdone in his own house, the Diamondbacks own Paul Goldschmidt responded in kind, going 3-5 with two home runs and 3 RBIs, showing why some teammates have nicknamed him "America's First Baseman". Goldschmidt wasn't the only Diamondback to have a good night, as Arizona set a season high record for runs scored at home in the 11-5 drubbing of Cincinnati.

Diamondbacks Seeking to Give Corbin Win Number 10

Patrick Corbin will toe the rubber against the Mike Leake and the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday as he strives for the fourth time this year to get win number ten. The numbers look good.

Delgado Gets Another Start / Spruill to Relieve Collmenter

Randall Delgado impressed the team by not walking anyone in his seven inning outing and has thus earned another start on Sunday. He'll be part of a four-man rotation until Kennedy returns next Saturday. The possibility still exists that Delgado could get one more start against Atlanta on Friday. Meanwhile, another arm from the big Upton trade has joined the bullpen, Zeke Spruill. Given Collmenter's six inning outing, Spruill has been called up to give some temporary extra depth to the bullpen.

Cory Hahn Gets to Work

The Diamondbacks 34th round selection, paralyzed former Sun Devil Cory Hahn has already begun his guest speaking appearances, getting used to being a part of the Diamondbacks family. His interviews have been phenomenal.

Don't Look Now

They may still be in last place in the AL East, but things are looking up for the Toronto Blue Jays as they beat Baltimore 7-6 yesterday to bring their current winning streak to nine games. This leaves them just one game behind Tampa, and only five games off the pace to reach the playoffs. With just over half a season to go, the boys from Canada might still be in this thing after all.

A Plan to Grow Baseball

Tampa Bay Rays owner Stuart Sternberg says diversifying the game of baseball is necessary to help it grow and he plans on trying to do just that.
