Diamondbacks 6, Padres 5

Patrick Corbin's streak of uber-quality starts came to an end, but he helped himself by driving in the go-ahead run, and the Diamondbacks remain undefeated this season when he takes the mound.

It was apparently from the start that Corbin didn't quite have the same stuff as he had the previous appearance in Colorado, as a lead-off double came around to score. However, Arizona struck back immediately, with Eric Chavez's seventh home-run of the year, a two-run shot. They added two more in the second, driven in by Miguel Montero and Gerardo Parra, but the Padres came back, tying things up with a run in the fourth, and then a two-run homer of their own, off the bat of Carlos Quentin in the fifth. Corbin drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the bottom of that frame, and ended up going six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks, with five K's.

Arizona added an insurance run, courtesy of Martin Prado, who went 4-for-4 to follow up his three-hit game yesterday, and that proved crucial as San Diego managed to hit the ball in the air off Brad Ziegler, to pull back within one. Matt Reynolds stranded the tying run at second, and Heath Bell pitched a perfect ninth, helped out some flashing of the leather from Prado. The win briefly gave the Diamondbacks the lead in the NL West, but they've been joined by the Giants, who just beat the Rockies.

Tomorrow is the Memorial Day double-header against Texas, with Tyler Skaggs and Trevor Cahill going for the D-backs.
