It started off so well.
Eric Chavez decided to get the scoring off on the right foot with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning which made it 2-0 in favor of the Diamondbacks. However, in an act of not-great foreshadowing, the top of the third inning contained Everth Cabrera hitting a two run jack for himself, his second of the series thus far. This tied the game up.
All was not lost! Back-to-back-to-back singles by Gerardo Parra, Didi Gregorius, and Paul Goldschmidt broke the deadlock and made it 3-2 D'Backs. Eric Chavez then had a very deep sacrifice fly that scored another run to make it 4-2, everything seemed to be coming up Milhouse!
Too much blood.
Out damn spot, out!
The fourth started out with a Carlos Quentin single. Then Jedd Gyorko (reminder: pronounced Jerk-o, because he is one.) hit a ball hard up the middle that hit Miley in the leg. He was able to recover and get the out (thanks to a really nifty scoop by Goldy.) He threw a few practice pitches and went back to work. He got Kyle Blanks to fly out and it looked like he might just...
It's like the beach scene in Saving Private Ryan.
The following sequence of events occured:
Andrew Cashner singles on a sharp ground ball to right fielder Cody Ross. Yonder Alonso scores. Nick Hundley to 2nd.
Chris Denorfia doubles (9) on a line drive to center fielder Gerardo Parra. Nick Hundley scores. Andrew Cashner to 3rd.
Pitching Change: Tony Sipp replaces Wade Miley, batting 9th.
Everth Cabrera doubles (5) on a line drive to center fielder Gerardo Parra. Andrew Cashner scores. Chris Denorfia scores.
By the time the smoke cleared, the 4-2 lead had become a 7-4 deficit. The rest of the game was basically reading a book by Trent Reznor on World War I. Nick Hundley drove in two runs in the next inning partially thanks to Gerardo Parra doing... something in the field, wasn't sure what. Brad Ziegler hitting Yonder Alonso with a pitch with the bases loaded was the final insult, and the D'Backs offense thew its hands up and quit for the rest of the game. And thus, your final score.
From this outing, Wade Miley's ERA has risen above Brandon McCarthy's on the year. 7 ER in 3.2 IP will do that. This game also brings us back down into a three-way tie for first place in the NL West, which is lovely.
Bright Light of Hope: Didi Gregorius, +5.3%
The Pointlessness of Life: Wade Miley, -40.3%
