Week 1 Results
AZ SnakePit 5, MyWieterGetzLongoria 4
Snake swept hitting, and Wieter almost swept pitching, but saves ended tied at four. Reed picked up three for AZ - and that gave them the overall edge; they also got two HR apiece from Bautista and Pence. Wieter had excellent pitching, with a 2.15 ERA: Samardzija notched a W and 22 strikeouts for them.
Phoenix Platypi 8, Got Grittiness? 2
Phoenix batted .322 behind Hitter of the Week Davis, who had four HR and 17 RBI [twice as many as the Pirates roster!]; Arencibia added three homers for them. They also had the Pitcher of the Week in Darvish (two W, 20 K), with Kershaw getting two Wins. Tulowitzki had two HR + seven RBI for Grittiness.
Alabama Slammers 4, Blonde Streaks 4
Probably the week's most-even game: on both pitching and hitting, each side got two points, with a category (HR and Sv) tied. Crisp had three homers for Alabama; Blonde got the same out of Harper. Romo picked up a trio of saves for the Slammers; Streaks countered with a Win and two Saves by Perkins.
Waffles 6, The Fighting Amish 4
Waffles took all the offense points; Murphy's two HR and six RBI led their hitters, Rizzo and Kinsler also homering twice. Morse had five HR for Amish, but the rest of their roster managed only two. They did better on pitching, behind Anderson (W + 16 K) and Betancourt (three Sv); Straily got a W + 11 K for the Amish.
Sofa King Juiced 9, Space Wizard 1
Sofa's pitching was as dominant as last year, picking up eight Wins and a 1.42 ERA. Niese (W + 9 K) and Kennedy (W + 8 K) led them there, with Rios homering three times. Space got good individual showings from Middlebrook (four HR) and Burnett (19 K), but BA, where they hit .281, was their only point scored.
Mizzoula Osprey 9, CompleteGameShutout 1
Of last year's medalists, Mizzoula were the only side to start with a win, crushing Complete, with K's being the only point won by the latter (Shields got 14 strikeouts). Otherwise, it was all Osprey: Frazier had three home-runs and drove in nine to lead the offense, while Iwakuma got a W and 10 K's on the mound.
Dirt McGrit 5, Moved Upton 5
Former D-backs played prominent hitting roles. Reynolds (Dirt) got four HR and seven RBI; Upton (Moved) had five HR and drove in seven runs, as these two fought their way to deadlock. Lester notched two W and 13 K's for McGrit, but the Uptons got seven Saves, Hanrahan getting two with a zero ERA and 0.67 WHIP.
