Diamondbacks 10, Cardinals 9

After alternating nights of solid pitching performances between the Diamondbacks and the Cardinals, both teams brought the heavy artillery into Chase for the rubber match on Wednesday night. Gerardo Parra started off the barrage with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first for the Diamondbacks, and by the end of the night he was joined by Martin Prado, Paul Goldschmidt, and Yadier Molina in the home run tally.

Brandon McCarthy's first start for the Diamondbacks wasn't much to write home about- he took a 5-4 game into the sixth inning and put two runners on before he was pulled for Tony Sipp. Sipp gave up a double on his first pitch to bring in both runners, leaving McCarthy at 5 innings and 6 earned runs on the night. Later scoring left him with a no decision.

It was a long night in Chase Field, going into extra innings, with neither team's bullpen willing to flinch through the tenth and eleventh. Both teams traded runs in the twelfth inning, but Josh Collmenter locked down the Cardinals offense to keep them off the board. With the game officially the longest game in Chase Field, Jason Kubel led off the bottom of the sixteenth with a single, took second on a sac bunt from IPK, and came in on a walkoff single from Cliff Pennington.
