Diamondbacks 4, Giants 6

Christian Petersen

Arizona had one really, really good inning, but there were two where their pitchers started, and that proved enough to let the Giants slide off the hook, and win the series opener at Chase Field tonight

Initially, it looked like Ian Kennedy was going to struggle, as he allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in the opening frame, and then a solo home-run leading off the second inning. However, he settled down, and only gave up one run the rest of the way, lasting seven innings. That gave the Diamondbacks offense the chance to come back, and they did exactly that in the fourth inning, big time. Jason Kubel got Arizona on the board with a two-run jack, Eric Chavez followed immediately with his own solo shot, and Martin Prado gave the Diamondbacks the lead with his fourth long ball of the season.

This game was tied in the eighth, and turned over to the bullpens, but Brad Ziegler had an uncharacteristic problem throwing strikes and the Giants' left-handed batters made him pay. After a lead-off double, he loaded the bases with a pair of walks, and a two-run single back up the middle gave San Francisco the lead. The Diamondbacks did get the tying run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth inning, but were unable to do anything with it, and the visitors were able to end their five-game losing streak.

Full recap will be up before too long. It'll be the same two teams tomorrow night at Chase, with Trevor Cahill taking on Madison Bumgarner.
