Diamondbacks 6, Giants 4 (11 innings)

USA TODAY Sports

This one should be filed as "needlessly interesting". This time, Arizona blew a 4-0 lead in the last two innings, with J.J. Putz giving up a two-run homer in the ninth to tie it. However, some hustle in the 11th from Didi Gregorius helped bail out the D-backs, who are now 4-0 in extra inning games.

Patrick Corbin was totally dominant in the first seven innings: economical, hitting his spots and getting a lot of quick outs. Meanwhile, as last night, the Diamondbacks scored two in the first, and when Paul Goldschmidt hammered his fourth home-run (SnakeLines count: 4) of the season in the third inning off Matt Cain, the two-run shot made it 4-0. The score stayed that way until the eighth, when the Giants finally got to Corbin for two runs, but it was still a great outing: 7.1 IP, six hits, no walks and seven strikeouts. However, J.J. Putz couldn't close things out, mislocating a slider which was deposited into the bleachers for the second late, game-tying, two-run homer in consecutive nights.

This had the horrible feeling that it was going to be deja vu all over again. and the Giants got a walk and two hits in the 10th off Brad Ziegler. However, the Obese Raccoon was sent home and was out by a margin wider than his pant-size. Didi Gregorius got a hustle one-out double, taking second as the Giants outfielders stood around, advanced on a ground-ball and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Gerardo Parra followed with an RBI double, and Matt Reynolds worked around a lead-off single, with the help of a double-play, for the save.

There's a day game tomorrow at AT&T Park, with Ian Kennedy taking on Madison Bumgarner. A win would salvage a 4-5 road-trip, which wouldn't be too bad. BattleMoses will be along in a bit with the full recap.
