Spring Training Jersey Competition!

Stay connected for news and updates

Since the Dbacks moved spring training back to Phoenix I wanted to attend some games and follow the players before the season started, this year I was able to do so!In addition to seeing the team and the prospects up close I decided to set it up this year that I find my favorite player and get his jersey once the season opens up. I already have been looking for some oakley glasses and found random images of these sweet Dbacks ones! My little competition wasn't about their stats or hype but it was about who I liked the most, who I wanted to rep for the home opener against Saint Louis! As of right now that guy is Josh Collmenter

1st Josh is rocking that beard. although I do not find beards attractive, I do find them to be quite funny. Apparently Josh has been working on it since the fall and it does have some girth haha. In addition to the beard I thought he has been pitching alright and seems to be a really fun guy. It's safe to say Josh is winning over my heart! After all I am sure everyone on the site has read the posts about the Renaissance fair and how Collmenter has made it his signature event, awesome!

Sure Collmenter has been an up and down player for the two seasons he has been with the club but I believe this can be a bouce-back/break out year for him if he gets the innings. Of course proving himself worthy starts now but Josh has skills of a guy who can add a lot to a rotation. He is not a power pitcher or a sneaky breaking ball pitcher, but I see him right in the middle as a dependable strike-thrower. Although that almost sounds like an insult I think it is true and every rotation needs a guy without a gimmick. That case could be made for Ian Kennedy and most of the guys on the squad but Kennedy can still get his fastball up in the mid 90s and does throw that knuckle-curve and his somewhat unconventional change up. Hell, maybe all of this is impossible and I just think it could work because I am rooting for the guy.

I guess this post is more about why I think Collementer should be a big part of the team this year and what his role could be. From what I am reading in posts like http://www.rotochamp.com/players/TeamPage.aspx?Team=ARI it sounds like Collmenter might end up in Reno or on the street but I really hope that doesn't happen! Especially if I spring for a jersey which might cost extra because he has no street cred. I also believe that the Collmenter of 2 years ago is a better pticher than Wade Miley and Tyler Skaggs. But what do I know., plus Collmenter has a lot of innings left to throw to make the squad in a long-relief position and ideally a rotation spot.
