The Cooperstown induction ceremony this year will be brief, as for the first time since 1996, no-one was elected by the BBWAA. I find myself entirely happy with this situation.

By shutting out everybody who played in the "Steroid Era", the BBWAA is trying to cover up a part of Baseball history. This makes someone who fell in love with the game during that time very sad.

The BBWAA voters have made their decision, and it's not entirely unexpected. Despite their stats being among the best of all time, neither Barry Bonds nor Roger Clemens need to make hotel reservations for Cooperstown - at least, not this year. Both failed to get the 75% of votes needed to be elected to the Hall of Fame. Then again, so did everyone else.

The debate that has been bubbling under the surface of the Hall of Fame balloting for the past couple of years finally reaches boiling point this year, as we reach those whose final season in the majors was 2007. That includes Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa - but also a good crop of players with Diamondbacks links.
