A six-run second inning, including a pair of two-run homers. took the wind out of the Diamondbacks sails in the rubber game against the Giants in San Francisco this afternoon. Patrick Corbin continued the recent struggles of our young starters, lasting only three frames, and being charged with seven hits and six earned runs. Paul Goldschmidt had a pair of knocks for Arizona, and Chris Young drove in two with a bases-loaded single off the bench. Bryan Shaw allowed a hit over two innings of scoreless relief.
The loss evens the Diamondbacks' record on the season at 78-78. With six games to go against the Cubs and Rockies, back at Chase Field, we need to win four of them in order to end the 2012 campaign with a winning record. It's still certainly possible, but by no means certain.
