As noted the other day, Bedard is one of the best active pitchers never to have been selected for an All-Star Game. This year is not one of those seasons, however. There are occasions when a starting pitcher's W-L record is not really an accurate portrayal of how well they have pitched, but Bedard has the worst season ERA of the eight starters the Pirates have used this year. If the Diamondbacks are to make progress this series, winning the opening contest this afternoon is almost a must-do, because it's likely to get harder before it gets easier.
The first line-up in the era of Wil Nieves after the jump. Clefo will be recapping, following a schedule shift from tomorrow.
- Willie Bloomquist SS
- Aaron Hill 2B
- Jason Kubel LF
- Paul Goldschmidt 1B
- Justin Upton RF
- Miguel Montero C
- Chris Johnson 3B
- Chris Young CF
- Wade Miley P
One day, dammit, I will stop writing "Kelly Johnson" in the line-up. That day, however, is not today. Bloomquist is back in the line-up, after his back being why he wasn't in the line-up. If you see what I mean. Otherwise, a fairly standard line-up against a left-hander, with the possible exception of Young playing instead of Parra. Probably not going to be about much, especially later on, because of the recap swap - might be dining out to celebrate something (entirely non-SnakePit related) which I can't really get into. I trust I am being adequately mysterious! However, let's just say that winning tonight would be a nice end to the day...
