Have you ever read a comic book or seen a TV show or movie where the villain seems to be defeated and everybody is relieved and celebrates, but then it cuts back to a pile of rubble where a hand reaches out, implying that the joy was premature and that said baddie would indeed return?
On a totally unrelated note: Takashi Saito's injury woes continue, as the D'Backs have placed the reliever on the DL with a strained left hamstring. He was less than effective in his last outing Sunday against Washington, where he only retired one batter and gave up two runs in what was supposed to be mop-up duty. He had pitched 7 and 1/3 innings this season with a 6.14 ERA. He missed the entire first half of the season with various ailments.
In his place comes Mike Zagurski, who was recently DFA'd after a horrendous outing against the aforementioned Nationals, giving up four runs in relief. His ERA on the season is 6.18, close to Saito's, but in many many more innings pitched. This move ends three days of a sinister-less period of bullpen personnel.
