As a fan, what would you like to see from the Dbacks? I'm very biased when it comes to young potential vs veteran known quantities, so would like your opinions on the possible rotation for next year.
If it was up to me, I'd go in no particular order:
Kennedy
Cahill
Miley
And then let Skaggs, Corbin, Bauer duke it out in spring training for the final 2 spots.
But I wonder if the Dbacks would rather have a veteran like Saunders back again, if he'd be willing to do another 1 year deal for about $6-$8mil (he got paid $6mil this year).
With pitchers, injuries always happen, and a team can never have too much pitching. It'd be nice to have the problem of having 7 pitchers competing for 5 spots, and I don't believe Hudson will be ready next year.Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is, would you want them to re-sign Saunders or just roll the dice on the young talent?
Saunders since coming over from the Angels:
2010 - 13 starts, 4.25 ERA - after the Dan Haren trade
2011 - 33 starts, 3.69 ERA, 4.78 FIP
2012 - 19 starts, 3.52 ERA, 3.93 FIP
Also, I don't know if it's legit or not, but it looks like he's scrapped his slider and thrown less change ups to throw a lot more fastballs and also increase his curveballs this year (via fangraphs). It's resulted in the highest strike out rate he's had since his rookie year and the lowest walk rate in his career.
