Today's aim is to avoid being swept at home by the Padres. Not what I wanted to write when we started the series, but a pair of mediocre starts from our pitchers, and a largely-ineffectual offense, means that's where we stand tonight. Ugh. The only plus is, the Giants have already lost again in Washington, so if Arizona can beat Jason Marquis - and really, that should be much more a "when" than an "if" - we won't have lost any ground on them this series. Of course, given this was a chance to make up ground, merely holding our position isn't quite what I hoped for.
kishi on the recap, line-up after the jump
- Willie Bloomquist SS
- Aaron Hill 2B
- Justin Upton RF
- Jason Kubel LF
- Paul Goldschmidt 1B
- Miguel Montero C
- Chris Young CF
- Ryan Roberts 3B
- Ian Kennedy P
Stephen Drew gets the day off, with Bloomquist replacing him, both at short and in the lead-off spot. Roberts is back at third, in place of Geoff Blum. A full house at Chase for this afternoon's game, which will include tributes to the armed forces and a post-game fireworks show - if the weather co-operates, and at the moment, that is looking pretty dodgy.
