Its time for Kevin Towers to make a move to improve the Diamondbacks today and the future.
When I talk to most Diamondback fans the first conversation usually starts with "why don't we trade Joe Saunders?" Well I challenge you to think more outside the box and think of other ways were the the organization can trade a position of depth. Trading Joe Saunders may get you a very fringe prospect at best and if that's the case is it really worth it considering hes having a decent year at a fair salary? Now hold your breathe but I think its time to see what you can get for one of the three top pitchers in the starting rotation. Ian Kennedy, Daniel Hudson, Wade Miley. I see three glaring weaknesses in the organization. The first is at SS; You can say your goodbyes to Stephan Drew when the 2012 season concludes and I'm sorry but Willie Bloomquist and John McDonald are great assets for the bench and not in the starting line up day in and day out. Secondly Thirdbase; The Diamondbacks are yearning for any production at this position any chance one of these three pitchers produce a David Wright from the Mets? I don't know about you but David Wright would look good in a Dbacks uniform. Lastly Closer; If you have watched the Diamondbacks this year then you understand that JJ Putz should not be re-signed after the 2012 year is over, unless its very contract friendly and a lesser role than closer. Go get a guy you can hand the ball too and know that the game is over.
The bottom line is the Diamondbacks have depth in starting pitching. They have Trevor Bauer, Tyler Skaggs, and Patrick Corbin waiting for their chance. Its time to see if one of these pitchers could bring a top player in their position to the desert.
