Series 2: Padres vs. Dbacks

Hello everyone. Welcome to This Week in Baseball! Wait... That's not right. Sorry about the delay in this next series but studying for Finals will do that to you. Without further ado, here is the next series for your viewing pleasure!

So I had to make some edits to some players i.e. Joe Paterson was throwing 95, ya we can't have now can we? He was also throwing overhand which looked way funky so I found a comparable pitching form for him. I forgot to include Miley in the bullpen for Game 1, but no worries, he was in there for Game 2 of this series. Hmm... I think that's all I did. If you have anything please let me know like always.

Game 1 Recap

Diamondbacks 2, Padres 4

Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres
Apr 10, 2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Arizona (2-2) 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 2 4 0
San Diego (4-1) 0 0 0 0 0 2 2 0 0 4 7 0
W: Ernesto Frieri (2-0) L: Bryan Shaw (0-1) S: Huston Street (4)

Justin Upton: 2-4, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R
Carlos Quentin: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

Dbacks Pitching
Trevor Cahill
had a pretty decent debut for the Dbacks. 5 1/3 IP, 2R (all earned), 4 H, 5 BB, and 2 SO but was all over the zone all night. He ran into trouble in the 6th and walked home a run before Saito came on and let another run through before getting out of it with the score tied. Bryan Shaw was disappointing. A lead-off double, sac-fly and then a Carlos Quentin jack made it 4-2 Padres. Paterson and Ziegler closed out the last 1 2/3 perfectly.

Dbacks Hitting
Justin Upton went 2 for 4 with 2 HR's (the other two outs were absolutely crushed to CF with Maybin robbing him both times of extra bases) while everyone else went 2 for 25. Yikes. Moving on now...

Game 2 Recap

Diamondbacks 3, Padres 2

Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres
Apr 11th, 2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Arizona () 0 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 3 11 1
San Diego () 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 2 6 1
W: Joe Saunders (1-0) L: Tim Stauffer (0-1) S: J.J. Putz (2)

Justin Upton: 3-4, 2B, BB, R
Mark Kotsay
: 2-4, 2B

Dbacks Pitching
Joe Saunders was brilliant in his 7 1/3 IP except for the 8th . He gave up a walk, a hit and a sac bunt before David Hernandez came on and intentionally walked Quentin. He got his double play ball but Lyle Overbay dropped the ball. After the run came in, he casually struck out Orlando Hudson to end the inning. J.J. Putz then came on and blew it past the Padres to keep the score 3-2.

Dbacks Hitting
Bases Loaded with 1 out in the 1st? Montero GIDP. Bases loaded with 2 outs in the 2nd? Aaron Hill F-8. Nothing in the 3rd or 4th but in the 5th everything changes.

Diamondbacks batting. Saunders grounded out to Kotsay (3U). Parra lined to left for a single. Hill flied out to Denorfia (F9). Upton doubled to left. Parra advances to 3rd. Kubel doubled to center. Parra scores. Upton scores. Montero lined to right for a single. Kubel scores. Blum struck out chasing a 0-2 fastball low and in, ending the inning.

So that's the good. The bad is Aaron Hill went 0-5 to drop his BA to .176. Day off tomorrow anyone? Also bad was the 12 runners left on base. Someone else needs to start hitting the ball other than Justin Upton.

Game 3 Recap

Diamondbacks 9, Padres 4

So a cool little feature I've never seen before happened before the game. I had Geoff Blum starting at 3rd and the physician said he strained a groin in warm-ups and wouldn't be able to play. Crazy. I had to replace him with Willie Bloomquist unfortunately since Roberts was dead tired. Anyways, back to the game.

Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres
Apr 12, 2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Arizona (4-2) 3 4 0 1 1 0 0 0 0 9 15 0
San Diego (4-3) 0 2 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 4 8 1
W: Ian Kennedy (2-0) L: Cory Luebke (1-1)

Willie Bloomquist: 5-6, 3R (wat)
Nick Hundley: 1-3, HR, 2RBI, BB, R

Dbacks Pitching
Ian Kennedy was okay, 7IP, 7H, 4ER, 3BB, and 7K. Pitching is easy when you have a huge lead. He kept the ball down and got a lot of ground balls. The 7th was troublesome, as a 2 run-homer brought the game within 5 but David Hernandez came on and went 1-2-3. Ziegler then finished them off in a perfect inning of his own.

Dbacks Hitting
Oh hello offense. Nice of you to join us FINALLY. Everyone with a hit except for Johnny Mac and Ian Kennedy. Come on now boys. Willie with 5(!!!) and had a chance at #6 but GIDP. Parra with 3. Goldy hit a huge 2 run double in the first to semi break out of his little slump. Hammerin' Hank even had 3 hits in his first start of the season.

So a good start to the road-trip for the Dbacks as they took 2 of 3 from the Padres. They head to Coors for a 3 game set with the Rockies.
