2011 First-Year Pitchers with at least 0.5 WAR

Thanks to High Heat Stats we got a nice look on rookie pitchers this past year. The Diamondbacks were one of three teams to have at least three rookie pitchers with a at least a 0.5 WAR. Some highlights:

- Josh Collmenter posted the 3rd best ERA+ among rookie starters with a minimum of five starts (117)

- Bryan Shaw had the 5th best ERA+ overall among all rookie pitchers with at least 25 IP (157)

- Joe Paterson was the 2nd most prominent rookie pitcher seen in 2011, appearing in a total of 62 games.

- Even more impressive is the fact that all of them pitched in the NLDS.

All three players had FIPs of 3.80 or lower in 2011 and Bill James does not project any massive regression for any of them in 2012. With more rookie arms like Bauer, Skaggs, Holmberg, Corbin, Chafin, Bradley, and Meo on the way, this lists seems likely to be populated with Diamondbacks for a another few years.

You always get a little worried when your team is this stocked with potential and you have a GM who wants to "win now" but so far we still have a lot to smile about. So let's just keep smiling.

Keep on smiling...

Until they give us a reason not to.

The Joe Paterson pick up was brilliant

KT makes a ton of ugly moves, but you can never really doubt anything he does with the pen. His track record is just too good.

This year's guy probably won't have the same result

Unless someone gets injured in Spring Training. The bullpen is full

Injuries

happen quite frequently in baseball. I would never count them out
