SnakeBytes 9/9: One Ring Edition
Well, one ring so far- we'll celebrate that this weekend, though if you weren't aware of that yet, I hope that you're happy with the rock you've been living under...
Recaps:
-
[AZ Central] Arizona Diamondbacks top San Diego Padres, Ian Kennedy wins 19th game of season - 13 straight home wins for the Diamondbacks is a franchise record.
-
[FS Arizona] Kennedy shows Cy Young stuff against Padres - I still don't think IPK will win the Cy Young. But he's going out every start and making his argument for it.
-
[DBacks.com] Kennedy rolls to NL-best 19th win for D-backs - Even if the Giants seem to have folded, at least we still have a race. 1.5 back of the Brewers for the #2 seed in the NL.
-
[Phoenix New Times] Diamondbacks Move Ever Closer to NL West Title, as Ian Kennedy Overpowers San Diego Padres for League-Leading 19th Win - Well, I don't know if I'd call Kirk Gibson "one of the most famous baseball players ever," though he's pretty well known. This team is pretty anonymous to much of baseball, but I think this season is starting to change that.
-
[AZ Central] Extra innings with Josh Collmenter - Another player that I don't think will win the award (or should), but I at least wish Josh Collmenter would get some more attention for Rookie of the Year. He's outplayed all my expectations.
-
[ESPN] Twitterview with Daniel Hudson - Daniel Hudson (DHuddy41 on Twitter) answered some questions for ESPN. Apparently everyone thinking the DBacks had no chance really helped motivate the team.
-
[Daily Herald] Brenly recalls baseball's role after Sept. 11 - We'll see a lot of tenth anniversary news this weekend, obviously. Bob Brenly and the Diamondbacks, obviously, play a big part in the way baseball remembers it.
-
[Big League Stew] Why do the Diamondbacks have a big golden bone in their dugout? - An excellent question. With an interesting, old school answer.
-
[AL.com] Mobile, Birmingham carry South Division banner in SL playoffs - We've moved a lot of our big pieces up from Mobile, but they're still playing well.
-
[Minor League Ball] 2011 Arizona Fall League Roster Review: Salt River Rafters - If you're going to follow the Arizona Fall League games, Minor League Ball has a rundown on the Rafters's roster, including the players the DBacks are sending.
-
[Diary of a Diehard] Basking in the Moment - This team? They're kinda good. Let's enjoy it.
Speaking of Huddy on Twitter, there were some Giants fans giving him guff about the "Fear the Red Beard" slogan last night. As he said, #hatersgonnahate.
Around Baseball:
-
[City Watch LA] Are 8,000 Dodger Fans Worth $1.2 Billion? - The Dodgers official attendance may not be that bad, but the headcounts in the stadium may be approaching Marlins-territory. Is it worth that much money for this team?
-
[Yahoo! Sports] MLB faces fourth straight attendance decline - Of course, attendance all over isn't great, despite Bud Selig's assertions.
- [ESPN] Early preview of 2012 closer situations - It talks about the whole league, but I just was pretty pleased to look at it and realize we have Putz and Hernandez coming back next year, and for pretty dang cheap, too.
-
[Yahoo! Sports] Terry Collins (Gibson) for Manager of the Year- Yahoo! Sports - Yes, because when I think "Manager of the Year," I think of taking the third highest spending team in the National League and fighting a valiant fight for .500.
-
[Chicago Tribune] Here's a ranking of possible candidates for Chicago Cubs general manager job - The Cubs will be looking for a new GM this off-season. Might they go for Josh Byrnes?

God bless America
And the Diamondbacks! I came home from R&R from the middle east to catch game 1 of the world series in Phoenix. Amazing!! I still get excited during the post season even if we struggle and miss it. Nice to see us in control of our destiny.

I am really glad to see that huge golden bone explained
Having never played baseball, I had absolutely no idea what that was.
That Terry Collins article is beyond stupid.
Because Justin Upton is totally someone you’ve never heard of.
