It's time. Who will play in the Division Series
Now that the season is over it's time to try to guess who makes the postseason roster. There are obvious locks: Justin Upton, Ian Kennedy, Paul Goldschmidt, Daniel Hudson, Miguel Montero, Willie Bloomquist, Aaron Hill, Chris Young, Joe Saunders, JJ Putz, David Hernandez, Joe Paterson, Josh Collmenter, Lyle Overbay, Ryan Roberts, Bryan Shaw, Gerardo Parra, Henry Blanco, Brad Ziegler and John McDonald are locks.
Here are my thoughts on the other 5 guys
Sean Burroughs- he has a lot of pinch hits. I trust him more than Geoff Blum
Ryan Cook- He's been pretty good this month-He replaces Juan Gutierrez to be eligible
Colin Cowgill- He's faster than Gillespie and probably a better hitter
Micah Owings-I trust him more than anyone else to be the longman and he seems unable to lose
Alberto Castillo- One lefty won't cut it and I like him more than Zach Duke or Wade Miley

I almost
completely agree with this, but I think I would have Miley over Castillo. No real reason for this, I just have seen Miley a little more

my last five are
Burroughs, Blum, Cowgill, Owings and Parker
Gibby likes infielders to mix and match, Parker is an unknown and as such might be a card to be played in case of need and Owings does a bit of everything.
just my humble opinion, ymmv
I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....
Are DBacks using 11 or 12 pitchers?
I’d say Burroughs, Blum, Cowgill, Owings and Castillo. But, I guess they could do what you say if they carry 12 pitchers instead.
Gibby already
said Blum is on the post season roster (in not so many words).
And I dont think Parker can be on the roster, but that would be cool.
I got nothin'.
He can replace
Nady, Marquis, Drew, or Gutierrez just like Cook
Then I say he plays SS. ;)
I thought so, but that replacement rule always confuses me.
I got nothin'.
I think
Cowgill is a lock for his Defense and Speed as a pinch runner. We have seen it work before.
Blum is a lock cause he can come get those easy RBI ground out/fly outs.
Cook will get a spot- brewers have not seen him, the more pitchers we have, that they dont know, they better.
Parker- See above
Owings- yes, every Sp will have a short leash.
Freeze it..and make a popsicle
It better not be a day game. That would suck.
You would think East ALDS would start around 3-4pm our time to make it primetime on east coat, then we would get the 7pm start time along with the West ALDS

My preferred depth chart:
C: Montero, Blanco
1B: Goldschmidt, Overbay
2B: Hill, Bloomquist
SS: McDonald, Bloomquist
3B: Roberts, either Blum or Burroughs
LF: Parra, Cowgill
CF: CY, Cowgill
RF: Upton, Cowgill
SP: Kennedy, Hudson, Collmenter, Saunders
CL: Putz
SU: Hernandez
RHMR: Ziegler, Shaw, Parker
LHMR: Paterson, Miley
LR: Owings
In all likelihood, Parker probably won’t be on the roster and both Burroughs and Blum will be. Also not sure if they go Castillo over Miley, but they shouldn’t.

I don't see any reason why we need an extra bench player
So why not bring on Parker? Even if he only gets two innings of relief in, chances are they’ll be pretty good innings. I’d rather send JP out for a short relief outing than Owings.

If the choice is Parker or Burroughs
Is that really a tough call?

i'm not even convinced we need Owings
for long relief purposes? if we need a long relief man, then the game is probably already over.
i’d have Parker in their for sure. definitely more confident in Parker than both Owings and Cook, and like you said, an extra bench player is useless

Why carry 12 pitchers?
I think it’s better to have extra players available for pinch-hitting, pinch-running, or defensive substitutions. It’s more likely you will need more than 4 position players than you will need 8 pitchers available in the bullpen.
That said, Parker could certainly be one of the top 11 pitchers (4 starters, 7 relievers).
If it comes down to us needing a pinch hitter
We can always use Micha out of the pen as well to hit. Im sure this is being taken into consideration in a pinch.

or even Hudson
who has shown that he knows how to handle a bat a bit

It was exciting to see Parker fit right in
DBacks pitchers who get hits! And then he also fit in with DBacks players who make outs on the basepaths. He looks like a True DBack for sure. LOL.
Steve Gilbert Just reported
Jarrod Parker is with the team and looks to have a spot on the playoff roster!
