It was a pretty awesome impersonation.

You’ve got to wonder if he had thought of that beforehand. Pretty amazing to have the presence of mind to do it in the moment.

Roberts

said post-game that he’d been planning to do it whenever he hit his first walkoff — but said he nearly forgot in all the excitement.

sweet

Perfectly timed… he did it right when Gibby did — between first and second.

He got it and was so giddy when I talked to him afterwards :)

Yes...

And further more, Joe gave the ball to Ryan and told him he deserved to have it since it was his first-ever Grand Slam in the majors!

Time Travel Question

I was watching the game last night on my computer, MLB.com. At the end of the top of the tenth inning, after we were behind 6-1, Daron Sutton’s voice comes on and tells all fans who are watching either the current game or the replay to stay tuned, don’t turn off the game, because they will not believe what happens in the bottom of the tenth.

I had always assumed that the Mlb.com feed was live. It certainly starts at the appointed game start time and seems to be live. But obviously, as I was watching the top of the tenth inning on MLB.com, the game was already over and Sutton somehow inserted his voice live into a tape-delayed broadcast and told us all to not miss the bottom of the tenth.

Or did Sutton come back from the future to warn us to stay tuned?

Or was it Sutton in an alternative universe calling really long distance?

What the hell was going on?

My guess is that the MLB.com broadcast and the simultaneous GameDay presentation starts out as a live broadcast, but gradually becomes more and more delayed as commercials are inserted between innings. So that by the broadcast of the top of the tenth, the real game was already over, and Sutton could tell us about the bottom of the tenth.

Am I insane?

Did anyone else hear this voice from the future?

Could Future Sutton tell me some winning Lotto numbers, or accompany me to the track?

Very weird.

To be fair

He does do that a lot, just this time something actually DID happen

So maybe it was a live Sutton

and the was just BS’ing, hoping something would happen in the bottom of the tenth?

That makes sense and it crossed my mind.

I like the time travel option better.

Well

Occam’s Razor and all that.

But yeah, I can remember a few nonspecific occasions during a D’Backs blowout loss where he says “If you’re watching this on replay, you know about the incredible comeback” or some permutation of that

no, i heard it too

at the time i thought it was just Sutton being weird, because i figured there was no way we were coming back from this game

but now i’m not so sure. i thought MLB.com feed was live as well, but i don’t actually know how it works. so maybe it was Sutton inserting his voice live into a tape-delayed broadcast.

They started the whole “watch the replay” discussion after it became, as we thought at the time, a laugher because Parker’s start was still worth checking out. I guess it just kinda snowballed from there because Daron and Mark were down about a great game ending in such an, assumedly, tragic way with not only Owings completely falling apart but J-Up taking another ball in the head.

by The so-called Beautiful on Sep 28, 2011 12:18 PM EDT up reply actions

that’s exactly what he was referring to, because he also had mentioned watching the future of the DBacks and Parker

BTW

Schulte’s radio call for this is also great. That is also up at mlb.com. “Are you kidding me?!?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! You. Are. Kidding. Me!” Candiotti: “It happened. It surely happened.” Schulte: “Micah Owings is 8-0!” Candiooit: “I’m telling you, he’s a good luck charm.” Schulte: “This is crazy folks. This is absolutely crazy! Unbelievable! Unbelievable!
