SnakeBytes 9/10: Purple Edition
So, if you want to get your replica ring, I hope you're reading this from in the park- lines apparently started up early...
Recaps:
-
[AZ Sports] Hudson channels his inner Schilling - 15 of our last 17, and tied with the Indians for the longest home winning streak of the season. Shiny.
-
[DBacks.com] Overbay delivers in eighth as D-backs rally - Appropriate for the throwback uniform day that our throwback player would get the big hit.
-
[AZ Central] Daniel Hudson tosses complete game; Diamondbacks beat Padres on throwback night
-Great to see a strong outing of Huddy. They may not be the Phillies top starters, but you have to feel pretty happy with the top of our rotation. -
[FS Arizona] On reunion weekend, Overbay reprises 2001 - I had forgotten that Overbay was actually on the team in 2001- though he wasn't on for much of the season, obviously.
-
[AHN] Tim Hudson goes the distance vs. Padres; D-backs hike NL West lead - Yeah, that says Tim Hudson. Maybe this team still has some recognition problems among the media...
DBacks News:
-
[AZ Central] Diamondbacks' Kirk Gibson lets stars' performance do talking - Gibby isn't going to be making a big pitch for his players to win post season awards- he'll let them do that themselves, on the field.
-
[Yahoo! Sports] Hats off to a company man in Arizona - Kevin Towers may be reaping a lot of the attention for the DBacks turn-around. But there's another guy who deserves some praise...
-
[Capital Times] Brewers notes: Diamondbacks closing fast - We're putting the pressure on Milwaukee in the standings- too bad we can't play them in the first round, after this season's shenanigans, it might be interesting.
-
[Sacramento Bee] Diamondbacks will honor Colangelo - The Arizona sports scene owes a lot to Jerry Colangelo for its very existence, and he'll throw out the first pitch at tonight's game.
-
[DBacks Venom] The Diamondbacks' Outfield Defense is Very Good, but Can Their Outstanding UZR Numbers be Trusted? - There's a lot of variation in defensive stats- how does our outfield stack up?
-
[Baseball Nation] The Rise of Ian Kennedy - Yankees fans are probably missing him. And rightfully so.
Around Baseball:
-
[Big League Stew] Home run hijinks: Alex Presley giveth, Jeff Francoeur taketh away - Frenchy!
-
[SI.com] San Francisco Giants reliever Jeremy Affeldt out for season - He cut his hand while separating frozen hamburgers. Seriously, Giants, this is getting ridiculous. And use a fork next time, dude.
-
[HardballTalk] Jake Peavy shut down for the rest of the year - Every time I read about Jake Peavy, I just think back to when he was so effective and feared, and shake my head.
-
[FanGraphs] Mark Reynolds Is Horri-Bad at Defense - Aw, poor Mark. He looked better out there last season! Seriously, he did, I wrote a whole post on it.

HUGE lines
We got to the park at 2:15, knowing the season ticket holders line opened at 2. I think EVERY season ticket holder is here because we still had to stand in line for 15 minutes.
We are calling this “post season practice.” I really didn’t mind standing in 100 degree heat for THIS reason!
Just got a message from Mrs. SnakePit
“My GOD! It’s psychotically crowded here. NEVER seen it this crowded.”
Daron "...the D. Baxter fan-club"
Mark: "A non-profit organization."

Wow! Got there at 2:30 and there were lines wrapped around the stadium. My friend got there at 2 and said the lines were long then. But, we got in and got our rings! Yes!
Wow was it crowded

Oh, and re: Colangelo
I saw him signing autographs in the aisle next to my section tonight. Fans were getting their photos taken with him, too. He got a very loud ovation from the crowd. Which was all nice to see.
Re: Affeldt. That is truly crazy. The Giants must have signed some deal with the devil last season. That is the only way to make sense of this.
And, yeah, Peavy…. Really, can’t believe what happened to both Webb and Peavy. They were both so good. It is sad that neither of them is pitching now.
