Stay connected for news and updates

Arizona Republic writer Nick Piecoro has confirmed that Collin Cowgill, outfielder for the AAA Reno Aces, will be called up and join the Diamondbacks tomorrow in San Diego. He will take the roster spot of infielder Geoff Blum, who fractured his right pinky fielding a ground ball in Sunday's game.

Cowgill was originally drafted in the 29th by the Oakland A's in 2007, did not sign, and was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 5th round in 2008. He spent 2008-2009 with A-level teams and 2010 in AA Mobile. He is batting .354/.430/.554 with 13 home runs in 98 games this season in Reno. This will be his major league debut.
