SnakeBytes 7/13: Victorious Edition
Hey, at least we won when it counted.
All Star Game Coverage:
-
[FS Arizona] Fielder propels NL to consecutive All-Star wins - All that talk of the American League's bats, and they were held to six hits and only one run. Nice work, NL pitchers.
-
[DBacks.com] Upton thrilled NL victorious at home ballpark - Justin Upton was glad to hear the fans chanting his name during the home run derby, but I'll say this- Justin, it was actually Prince Fielder's fault you weren't in the derby.
-
[The D-blog] Upton, Montero relish N.L. All-Star win - Take that, half the league!
-
[AZ Central] All-Star Game fans help make Phoenix feel like baseball city - If this can bring in more fans, motivate them to stick with the team? Well worth the effort, then.
-
[DBacks Venom] Ranking the 2011 Diamondbacks at the All Star Break - 36 players have been on the DBacks roster this year- at the mid-point of the season, how would you rank them? Amit gives us his rundown- apparently Armando Galarraga really isn't working on anything in Reno...
-
[AZ Central] Voicing displeasure; offensive decline; farm report; & other stuff - "The collective angst over Justin Upton’s exclusion from the derby was stunning. And awesome." It definitely was.
-
[DBacks.com] Cinderella Diamondbacks hungry for more success - The first half was a big surprise to many of us. Here's to more excitement in the next few months.
-

Around Baseball:
- [Boston Globe] Sides playing well together - While the NFL and NBA squabble, at least baseball seems to be getting along. But that may well mean realignment- not for the DBacks, at least, though. Latest reports say we'd see the Astros in the AL.
-
[Baseball Nation] Baseball's Top 10 First-Half Stories - Hey, we make it on the list at #3!
-
[Murray Chass On Baseball] All-Stars' Tweets Could Tweek Ratings - I'm really fascinated by the effect of social media on baseball. Obviously, there are some of us who love Barry Enright because of how he's engaged the fans on Twitter, and Logan Morrison has certainly gained some popularity because of it, too- I mean, how many members of the Marlins outfield could you name a year ago?
-
[Big League Stew] Brawl in minors results in 6 suspensions, 51 fines - 51 fines? Wouldn't it just be easier to point out the players who didn't get fined?
-
[Deadspin] The 100 Worst Baseball Players Of All Time: A Celebration (Part 1) - No Diamondbacks, fortunately, but at least one name tied to Phoenix sports does make an appearance. You might be a bit surprised.

Seriously, though. SO MANY ex-Mariners I remember on that list. Doug Strange, Bobby Ayala … brings me back.

Also
Kevin Jarvis, at #79. That must have been during the period I wasn’t paying attention to the Diamondbacks.

#Dbacks have been told they will not be asked to move to the AL West in realignment, sources said. Houston will move.

On the other hand
I put a link on the Clippings thing that said the Diamondbacks volunteered to move to the AL West. So who will blink first???
122'.
Just say "no" to D-backs realignment
I imagine the Giants though are working hard behind the scenes to lobby for D’backs realignment.

I thought I read that Houston was selected.

Yes, although initially there were some conflicting reports
but Houston moving to the AL makes enormous sense AND opens the door to a San Antonio expansion sometime in the future.
