The Oakland A's fired their manager Bob Geren today after compiling a 27-36 record, sitting in 4th in the AL West, 8 games back from first place. With the firing, Bob Melvin was named the interim manager. I wish we never fired him for A.J. Hinch, especially since with his firing we also lost Bryan Price. I hope Melvin can take the A's to a better record because I think the guy deserves to be a manager in the majors again.
[Edit by Jim] As was noted in the comments, Melvin had joined the Diamondbacks barely three weeks ago as a Special Baseball Advisor. There was speculation at the time as to whether he still wanted to be a manager. Guess we know the answer to that question now.
