If Andrew Susac is available at 43

would it be good idea to draft him?

I survived the 2004 & 2010 seasons.
Goldschmidt is AWESOME

or Hedges

i don’t know enough about them, but they are expected to stick at C from a defensive standpoint. the offense has always been the question.

it’s hard to tell with catchers (offense-wise) until you see them in pro ball imo.

by blue bulldog on Jun 6, 2011 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Probably

I’d be shocked if we don’t take a C at 43 if either of those two guys (Susac and Hedges) are available. They’ve said that they want to add catching depth, and that’d be an awesome way to do it.

they do have a lot of question marks

but after Susac and Hedges, the catcher ranks start looking really ugly…

by blue bulldog on Jun 6, 2011 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions

McCann would be a reach

I wouldn’t be horrified, but I’d prefer to just wait to the second round on someone like him.

In fact, given the way things are shaking up around here, waiting for McCann in round 2 sounds very enticing.

why not BPA?

we just added a C at AAA, seems like there’s always “somebody” moving teams to latch on at the C position.

No C in the system

The Mariners draft day thread is hilarious

In all fairness these are well trained and grizzled scouts. If they take Hultzen over Rendon and Bauer then they most feel very strongly.

by txzona on Jun 6, 2011 10:02 PM EDT reply actions

they could always point to the Giants

and say …. “at least we didn’t go into a draft Panik mode”

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....

by piratedan7 on Jun 6, 2011 10:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Rendon is a 20-30 guy and Bauer just looks disgusting

If Hultzen is a Cole Hamels type guy, then that is Awesome. Pineda, Felix, and Hultzen…yea that’s pretty damn good. I just think Bauer will be better and It’s hard for hitters to go to Seattle.

I hate to sound like a noob.. but

What’s your guy’s opinion on our picks? Ima huge Dback fan (since it was the BOB) but I never got into the draft.. I know we covered some needs at pitcher but the guys we got.. are they good? great? steals?? any input??

Love 'em

It’s a good day to be a D-backs fan. Particularly since the rest of the NL West hasn’t had a shining Day 1 of the draft.

With the 43rd selection the DBacks pick.....

A HAM SANDWICH. And we’d still have one of the best drafts of any team I think.

by txzona on Jun 6, 2011 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions

A pizza would be good,

but we’ve already got good pizza depth in our farm system. If not a ham sandwich, they have to go cream cheese bagel, cuz our cream cheese bagel depth is atrocious at every level.

we went from a system that was decent with pitching prospects

thx

Gorgon is the guy they gave up to get one of these extra picks. Wonder if they like the move in retrospect?

by Counsellmember on Jun 6, 2011 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Not sure

These guys aren’t great prospects, but Gorgen’s TJ really derailed his value, too. Probably a wash…

http://hasthelargehadroncolliderdestroyedtheworldyet.com/

by Dan Strittmatter on Jun 6, 2011 10:55 PM EDT up reply actions

you think?

Does TJ really make such a knock on a prospect’s value? How would you say it’s hurt Parker? Not just delayed his development? We shouyld have him in an extra prime year…I wont make that one a question.

by Counsellmember on Jun 6, 2011 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions

It's a significant delay

And not everyone recovers. I’m more confident about Parker after the last couple of starts. Gorgen wasn’t a huge prospect even before the surgery as a reliever… his value was in the fact that he could have helped later this year before the injury.

It’s like all pitchers have had Tommy John surgery at some point lol. Why don’t they just get the surgery before they get hurt now? Don’t waste the time of waiting for it.

Was excited............

but now I’m not. Bauer is a risk due to work load, Bradley was NOT the best high school arm available at #7 and we are already have better left handed prospects better than Chafin (Skaggs, Holmerg, Schuster). We need catching and middle infielders!!!!

by DBackFan4 on Jun 6, 2011 11:00 PM EDT reply actions

No need to draft for need

We’ve made three awesome picks today.

by Dan Strittmatter on Jun 6, 2011 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Two straight years.........

of pitching prospects. Not like we’re loaded with bats and postion players. If nothing else we’re stock piling arms for future trades.

by DBackFan4 on Jun 6, 2011 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah...

It’s hard to see where the Bradley/Rowland/Holmberg/Brewer/Corbin tier stand at this point. We’ll obviously deal with the problem when it becomes a problem (if it becomes a problem), but it’ll be very interesting to see how this system’s prospects percolate into the upper reaches of the system over the next couple years.

disagree with this

Bradley is definitely the best high school arm available at #7

who would you rather have? Guerrieri? the kid came out of nowhere….what if he ends up just losing his stuff randomly? tons of high school draft prospects end up just being one year wonders

at least Bradley has the pedigree of success (two straight years considered a premier prep talent). and scouts definitely think his stuff is as good, if not better than Guerrieri’s.

they have no idea

how much we desperately hope Bauer becomes the next Lincecum….and does to the Giants what Timmeh has tortured us with the past four years……

by blue bulldog on Jun 7, 2011 10:13 AM EDT up reply actions

Timmeh has morphed from a very eccentric hard thrower

to a seasoned number one pitcher with the full arsenal. He doesn’t need to throw 96 all the time anymore. He worked with Roger Craig during a period of time last season when he was struggling, and Craig corrected his grip and the kinds of pressure he was applying to the ball, making him even better. Hopefully, with Bauer, the D’Backs will train him to be able to get hitters out consistently without burning his arm out. If they can do that, he’s going to be a Giants nemesis for a long time to come.
