Diamondbacks Farm Round-Up: June 25th

Not a good night for Arizona farm teams, with Missoula and South Bend the only sides of the seven to come out victorious, though it took Yakima 13 innings before they were finally defeated. We were outscored 26-32 in total.

Snakelet of the Day:
Stephen Cardullo (Rookie): 3-for-3, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, BB, 3 R

Triple-A: Reno 3 @ Sacramento 8. Gaby Hernandez struggled with his control, and was tagged with the loss as the Aces went down to the River Cats. He allowed only three hits over five innings, but six walks led to five runs, all earned. Sam Demel's second rehab assignment didn't go too well either: he pitched the eighth, and gave up two runs on two hits and two walks, throwing only 11 of his 23 pitches for strikes. On offense, LF Brandon Allen drove in two with a pair of doubles, SS Cody Ransom singled and clubbed his 20th homer and, naturally, DH Sean Burroughs also had a two-hit night.

Double-A: Mobile 3 @ Mississippi 4.The BayBears matched the D-backs, striking out 14 times in this loss to the Braves. The top third of the order went 2-for-13 with nine K's - that included Your Daily Goldschmdt, who was 0-for-4 with 3 K's, giving him ten strikeouts in his last 17 ABs. Has the league found a hole? LF Marc Krauss had the best success, reaching three times on a hit and two walks. 3B Ryan Wheeler also had a hit and a walk. Wes Roemer got the start and went 5.1 innings, scattering six hits, two walks and fanning six; he allowed three earned runs.

High-A: Visalia 4 @ High Desert 6. The Rawhide blew two leads by the end of the fourth, and didn't show much fight after that. Eric Smith had a poor outing, giving up nine hits and three walks in five innings, leading to five runs; Taylor Sinclair worked two scoreless innings of relief for Visalia. 3B Matt Davidson led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, while CF Adam Eaton and DH Raoul Torrez chipped in with two hits apiece, the latter driving in two of the Rawhide runs.

A-ball: South Bend 3, West Michigan 2.1B Yazy Arbelo's 18th home-run of the season with one out in the eighth broke a 2-2 tie, and Jeremy Erben blew the save in the eighth, but closed things out with a scoreless ninth to earn the win over the Whitecaps. Michael Bolsinger started and went four scoreless innings, on three hits. He walked none and struck our four. 3B Matt Helm was the only Silver Hawks batter to reach safely more than once; he doubled and walked.  Both sides were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Low-A: Yakima 1, Tri-City 6. Might we have found a replacement for Trent Oeltjen? Fellow Aussie Kable Hogben is blowing them away for the Bears: he fanned five of six batters faced this evening, to give him 14 in his first eight innings. After the teams traded runs in the second, there was no more scoring by either side for ten frames, but the Dust Devils blew five runs in in the 13th, off Miles Reagan in his second inning. Alex Capaul allowed a single over three scoreless frames, and LF Henry Zabata had two of Yakima's four hits. Justin Hilt is now 2-for-31 with 23 K's.

Rookie: Missoula 10 @ Great Falls 2.The Osprey pounded out 16 hits on the night, and rolled to an easy win over the Voyagers. Raymond Hernandez got the start for Missoula, and went five innings, giving up four hits and a walk, fanning three - the only damage was a solo homer. However, better yet was Johan Jaime, who retired all nine men faced, two by K. SS Stephen Cardullo led the offense, finishing a triple shy of the cycle; there were also three-hit nights for 2B Eric Groff and C Roidany Aguila.

DSL: DSL Diamondbacks 2, DSL Cubs1 4. [In case you're wondering, the Cubs have two DSL affiliates, hence the
"Cubs1"] Karl Triana gave the D-backs a quality start, working six innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits and no walks. He fanned six but the two unearned runs proved costly. Jose Jose and WIlly Paredes combined for three shutout the rest of the way. CF Yorman Garcia and C Anderson Bolivar each got two hits, though the Diamondbacks were held without an extra-base hit.
