Diamondbacks Farm Round-Up, 6/23

I'll be posting these in the morning the rest of the week, it fits in better with my lifestyle. Reno had a big comeback, and we saw there the first of Sam Demel as he rehabs, but our affiliates lost four of the seven games played. However, they outscored the opposition 44-39, thanks to a big win in the DSL.

Snakelet of the Day:
Henry Zabala (Low-A): 4-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, R

Triple-A: Reno 8, Las Vegas 7.The Aces founds themselves in a 5-0 hole by the time Zach Kroenke recorded three outs. He was tagged for seven earned runs in 4.2 innings on seven hits and four walks, but Reno chipped away, eventually taking the lead in the eighth on a two-RBI single by Brandon Allen. 3B Sean Burroughs had three hits; DH Tony Abreu and SS Cody Ransom each chipped in two hits and a walk. Yhency Brazoban got the win for two scoreless innings of relief, but the big bullpen news was seeing Demel work a perfect seventh, getting three groundouts in 12 pitches, seven of them strikes.

Double-A: Mobile 2 @ Mississippi 4. Mobile got the second-half of their season under way, but an error by RF Marc Krauss allowed the Braves to score twice in the eighth, breaking a 2-2 tie, and that was the game. Kyler Newby gave the BayBears a quality start, going six innings; he scattered four hits and two walks, striking out seven and giving up two runs, both earned. C Ed Easley was the oly Mobile hitter to reach safely more than once, getting a pair of singles and driving in one. Your Daily Goldschmidt. Paul was 0-for-4 with three K's.

High-A: Visalia 4 @ High Desert 7. Derek Eitel is now 0-3 in his past five starts, with a 9.00 ERA - all those starts were on the road, but hard to argue you deserve better, when you allow eight hits, three walks and six runs in 4.2 innings. The bullpen kept the Maverick to one run the rest of the way, but High Desert were never threatened. DH Jon Owings got a double and a single, and there were also multi-hit games for RF Adam Eaton, C Rossmel Perez and RF Ryan LaPensee

Low-A: Yakima 4, Spokane 2. After last night's 16-inning marathon, the Bears got just what they needed, Teo Gutierrez pitching into the eighth frame. He scattered six hits, but didn't walk anyone, struck out three and held the Indians to two runs. Greg Robinson notched a five-out save to save the bullpen from further punishment. RF Henry Zabala notched four hits, finishing a triple short of the cycle, with 1B Jimmy Comerota and DH Zachary Jones chipping in with a pair apiece.

Rookie: Missoula 5, Helena 6. It was the Osprey's turn to play long instead, going 13 innings before losing to an unearned run - they made three errors on the night. Starter Taylor Siemens pitched one-hit ball for three scoreless innings, but Seth Simmons allowed five runs in his two frames of work which followed. Matt Sample fanned five over his two innings. RF Jeremia Gomez had three hits for Missoula, who scored in the ninth to tie the game, but couldn't push any more runs across. SS Josh Parr got two hits, both for extra bases, and added a walk.

DSL: DSL Diamondbacks 12, DSL White Sox 3. The D-backs accepted 11 free passes, but also pounded out 14 hits. A five-run fifth broke a 1-1 run tie, and was followed by a six-run sixth. Lead-off man, SS Pedro Ruiz, went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a walk; two hits and a walk were recorded by CF Yorman Garcia, 1B Yefrey Ramirez, LF Wilmer Santana and C Anderson Bolivar; DH Franyer Ramirez drew three walks. Starter Juan Valdez went 5.1 innings, scattering eight hits and a walk, but allowing only two runs; he struck out five.

AZL: AZL Diamondbacks 9, AZL Padres 10. D-backs starter Juan Falcon recorded only two outs, being clubbed for four hits, three hits and six earned runs. Our AZL team found themselves 7-0 down by the middle of the second, but mounted a rousing comeback and entered the ninth 9-8 up.
