SnakeBytes 10/6: Taking a Stand Edition
Couldn't have asked for much better in those games. The Diamondbacks came up when we needed them, defended their home turf, and, well, they're on their way to Milwaukee for Game 5...
Recaps:
-
[Dbacks.com] D-backs' thunder sends series to Game 5 - And, once again, Micah Owings with the W. The guy's a freaking wizard.
-
[FS Arizona] D-backs force Game 5 with power-filled win - Man, who would have ever thought the DBacks might mount a comeback? Oh, right, people who watched them play this season.
-
[AZ Central] Arizona Diamondbacks use home-run power to tie NLDS, force deciding Game 5 vs. Milwaukee Brewers - Miguel Montero: "Everybody's been doing a little something." That's been the team's strength all year, great to see them pick it up in the postseason.
-
[ESPN] D-backs slug their way back to Milwaukee - Fun fact: Rickie Weeks is hitting .067 this series. Let's keep that going.
-
[Fox News Latino] Miguel Montero and the Diamondbacks Create "The Snake," Force Game 5 - I do kind of love the Snake. Especially after it looked like Prince Fielder started to do "beast mode" after drawing a freaking walk in the first. Really, Prince?
More DBacks News:
-
[DBacks.com] Ryan Roberts continues D-backs' grand slam binge in Game 4 - Four straight home games with a grand slam? Now you gotta win in Milwaukee to keep it up in the NLCS.
-
[FS Arizona] Postseason brings out best in D-backs' Young - Chris Young might have struggled this season, but he's stepped it up a bit here, and is now the all-time postseason home run leader for the Diamondbacks.
-
[AZ Central] Arizona Diamondbacks complete a dramatic stand at home - Best crowd of any game I've ever attended, even more than seeing CY's walkoff at the Luis Gonzalez game.
-
[USA Today] Goldschmidt earns spot in Diamondbacks folklore - Kenny Williams asked for Paul Goldschmidt in return for Paul Konerko? Good call on turning down that offer, Kevin Towers.
-
[Yahoo! Sports] Arizona's 'motley bunch' forces Game 5 - We may not have the big names that Milwaukee does. But that doesn't slow down our team.
-
[dbacks.com] D-backs get ticket bounce before Game 4 - Not a sell-out, but moving 10k tickets in 24 hours? Not too bad.
-
[Big League Stew] ‘Tatman’: Roberts covers D-backs on field, himself with tattoos - If Tony Clark and his "Anybody, Anytime" represented our 2007 season best of all of our players, I kind of feel like Ryan Roberts represents this team. Not a big name, not a flashy player, but just a hard working guy that you're happy to see succeed. Playing over his head, maybe, but as long as he can keep it going, I'm all aboard.
And to hold you over until tomorrow, here's video of our team boarding the bus to Milwaukee. Good luck, guys. Bring us home a win.

Part of that isn't their fault.
Tropicana Field seats fewer people than Chase does. They sold out Game 3 with under 33,000 fans there, so that number is a little misleading.

The offseason question is...
Do Montero and Banuelos get traded for starting pitching because i don’t think Jesus will ever be able to play catcher successfully. A-Rod’s body is breaking down and he has 5 years left on his contract. He needs to DH for the rest of his career to come close to making an impact offensively. He can’t stay healthy playing the field at his age.
Or option B – Throw 100 mil at CJ Wilson!
I can't see how the Yanks can afford to keep him
a clutch hitter he is not.

i mean
it’s not like they are going to be able to trade A-Rod away
i’m just happy that Jeter still has 2 years and 30 million in that contact of his
as for Montero and Banuelos….Cashman would be stupid to trade them away. maybe Montero. definitely not Banuelos. when you need pitching, you don’t trade away your high upside cheap pitching prospects for overrated expensive pitchers.
let Montero DH for now. if A-Rod needs to be moved to DH then the Yanks just have to cross that bridge when they get to it.
You could definitely make the argument
That neither Banuelos or Betances can start. The last thing the Yankees need are more relievers. I certainly could understand packaging them both for a Felix Hernandez or something.

My feeling, too
I’d love to face the Cardinals. I’d also love to see Philly go home early. That would really make ESPN staff suicidal. Can you imagine? No Boston. No New York. No Philadelphia. Not even LA.

Better yet
a D’Backs/Rangers World Series.

though to be fair
the Rangers are a pretty big market now
considering they got that TV deal
Didn't know that.

yeah
they signed the massive TV deal after the offseason last year when they went to the WS
this has allowed them to bump payroll up from $65 million in 2010 to $92 million in 2011
Haaaahahaha
That would rock.

Just to clarify, Kishi
the guys were boarding a bus to the AIRPORT, and were flying to Milwaukee, right?

High five!
I was going to make the same reference.

made the mistake of listening to
the ESPN baseball today podcast while I was working on the PC at home……
still no love for Goldschmidt…. they’re (Karabell and Law) adamant that he has slow bat speed and simply doing nothing more than hitting mistakes.
Strangely, I’ve watched his approach at the plate over the last month and I see him waiting on offspeed stuff, trying to figure out how to hit it and be a more complete threat
at the plate, as if he’s attempting to counter what is already being done to him by trying to take the ball (i.e. changeups and breaking pitches) to the opposite field. Is anyone else seeing this or am I just being a homer and overly defensive?
I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....
Fair assessment
and Gonzo said about the same thing this morning on the radio.
Riding the Gibbytrain since 2011!
i dunno
whether it’s slow bat speed or just holes in his swing
he can’t seem to hit high fastballs or inside fastballs
regardless though, i don’t really think that’s going to be as big of a problem as people think. i think a lot of evaluators recognize a problem about a prospect and just end up having tunnel vision. if Goldy can’t hit inside pitches, so be it. if he’s hitting mistakes, isn’t that good? lots of pitchers make mistakes. nobody denies he has plus-plus power. so if he finds enough mistakes, 30-35 HR a year is very likely.
just because he’ll never be Joey Votto doesn’t mean he isn’t still a very valuable piece. as long as we don’t end up paying him like Ryan Howard…..
I think it's funny that all of my baseball friends
no matter what team they follow, have one line of thinking,
“Man I hate Goldschmidt, why doesn’t he play for my team?”
It warms the cockles of my heart. Maybe below the cockles, maybe in the sub-cockle area.
