D-Backs, Montero avoid arbitration
"The Diamondbacks and catcher Miguel Montero avoided arbitration on Wednesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.2 million deal. The contract comes in $100,000 above the midpoint of the numbers the sides filed for a potential arbitration hearing. The club filed at $2.8 million and Montero countered at $3.4 million. "Obviously I don’t want to go to arbitration," Montero said. "This is a good deal and I’m happy with it.""
The agreement leaves just Kelly Johnson to be settled with, among the 2011 Diamondbacks.

Anyone else
As excited as I am about this? If it wasn’t for his injury early in the season, he could have had a pretty good season. (key words, could have had)
Montero is a good catcher
we’re lucky to have him
does anyone know what the offer from both sides were for KJ’s arbitration?
KJ 6.5 vs. 4.7

let's sign him to a four year deal
we can give him 6 mil this year, then just go 8/9/10 for the FA years…which comes out to….4 years and 33 million
totally a great deal for us if we can get something like this done….

Interesting proposition
I kinda doubt KJ gives it up for 3/27 for his first 3 FA years, but then again, secondbasemen not named Chase Utley haven’t been doing all that well in the market these past number of seasons.
Playing around with selective begin end points and cherry picked stats……here are a couple of potential comps for KJ, upside being Jeff Kent from here on out….down side being kelly Gruber after age 29
Player WAR/pos OPS+ HR PA Age BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
Kelly Johnson 14.5 110 71 2573 23-28 282 507 .269 .352 .447 .800
Jeff Kent 14.5 106 107 2981 24-29 188 548 .269 .324 .455 .779
Kelly Gruber 14.2 107 103 2891 22-29 169 421 .264 .312 .445 .757

his OBP
is a ton better than those guys though…and that’s a lot of value
KJ also isn’t a slouch on defense (though i have no idea how he compares to those two)

Check out Kent immediately following this period
1998-2002
I’m just hoping for something like that……..KJ breaking out into a star.

TrueBlueLA points out
The deal makes Rod Barajas the highest-paid catcher in the division. 8-P
"While Mrs. SnakePit watched one of the most highly acclaimed films of the year, I sat through a badly made schlock fest with absolutely no redeeming value. And it was awesome."
Good for Mig
Nice all around, he’s consistant on defense which is great for a staff like ours so I am happy we got it done. As far as KJ goes I think I read that it was somwhere around 5-6 mill and we offer betwenn 3-4 mill but dont quote me on that for sure
