Facepalm
Prediction: a couple of months of watching Bloomquist, Blum et al make outs 70+% of the time, the good people of AZCentral are going to miss Mark Reynolds.

Edited to point to original source [I didn't FP this one!]
And also to include the 2012 mutual option.
Bloomquist has a career OPS of .653. He hasn’t had an OPS higher than .679 since his rookie year of 2002. In other words, at his best, he was about 50 points worse than the league average average. That might be tolerable if he was a defensive wiz, but his UZR is negative at every spot he has played, except 2B where he has a massive +0.7 for his career.
Signings like this, of players whose track-record is just not very good, even if they are mere place-fillers, make it increasingly difficult to sustain confidence in current management.
Kevin, you got some ’splaining to do…

Still looking into that
But he was voted the worst player in baseball after the 2006 season. And has not exactly exploded since…

I was hoping
to buy a D’backs jersey this year with an ASG patch, so at least I know which player I should get now.
The only way to win is not to play.
For whatever reason
I find that deeply disturbing.

you had all
better HUSH UP because I LOVES him, okay?
Okay, so he’s no Mark Reynolds, but … he’s … he’s my favorite.
Maaaaan I’m gonna get made fun of so much this season, I can already tell.
by jinnah on Jan 13, 2011 1:22 PM EST via mobile reply actions
deeply disappointed in him
for that. But he was an Aquasox years ago and I loved him before I knew I was supposed to hate ASU, so it’s okay.

It's
okay to like ASU baseball. It’s inevitable, given the power of the program.
The only way to win is not to play.
I don't know
I think I might have to ask ‘Skins if that’s okay …

I'll cheer
for the Sun Devils when your wife cheers for the Dolphins :p
Philip says no, we do not even like their baseball team. Booooooo ASU.

Yeah
but his only reason for hating the Sun Devils is he’s from a town that is often eclipsed by Phoenix. It’s not like he has a horse in this race.
The only way to win is not to play.
even if that's true
I still gotta hate ‘em if he does. It’s just what you do.

A light hitting guy with speed (he still does have speed right?)
Sounds like we’ll be saying Oy,Oy,Oy.
No Julio Franco, no peace.

Well
he stole 25 bases and hit 8 triples two years ago, so he has that going for him. Which is nice.
he also
hit an inside-the-park home run, and if that’s not talent then I don’t know what is.

Well
Sometimes that’s just bunting against the Diamondbacks.

The last paragraph:
Bloomquist and Kansas City Royals teammate Jason Kendall have become good friends and together are vying to represent the United States in the 2018 Olympics in two-man bobsled.
LOLZ
It's nice to know
That our infield will be going downhill very quickly… :-S

So with this signing...
Does that mean Ryan Roberts is gone, since he was the ‘25th man’?

I think Roberts was already gone
With the signing of Nady. The bench would have been Blanco, Blum, Abreu, Allen, Parra. Now, assuming Bloomquist is in, he could replace any of the non-catchers, though Blum is presumably safe.

So this is a vote of "no confidence"
on Abreu?

When a team likes a player, they pay him money for

Yes
but why would they like Bloomquist? I mean, I like him on principle because he’s a Sun Devil, and I guess jinnah likes him because he was an Aquasox, but we’re crazy.
The only way to win is not to play.
I saw him play in KC when I was on vacation.
And I guess he can play 7 positions and he has wheels. So I guess he’s Jose Oquendo.
No Julio Franco, no peace.

Are you kidding me?
Man, am I glad I haven’t bought any tickets for the D-Backs this summer yet. I shared season tickets for a couple years, then when my “connection” quit buying tickets I bought one of the 6-packs last year. This year? Maybe I’ll just wait and see. I have no idea what Towers is thinking.
You're not going to buy any
Tickets because the Diamondbacks signed Willie Bloomquist? That seems pretty shallow. Well, have fun at home. I’m not about to holdout my fandom because of one silly contract.

Shallow?
So now there is some deep inner meaning to attending baseball games that I’m not getting? Please enlighten me.

Me either
