SnakeBytes, 9/6: Holiday Edition
A dropped series against the Astros, but we take the field again today against the Giants. We can get right back to the business of disrupting playoff plans.
Recaps:
-
[dbacks.com] Missed opportunities hurt in D-backs' loss - "I was out by a long way, too, so maybe I should have stopped at third." If only Joel Youngblood had thought the same thing.
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks drop series finale to Houston Astros - Oone pitch in the first was pretty much the difference in the game. "If I could have kept it down, I could have ended up with a ground ball. But who knows, it was a slider that stayed up in the zone and stayed a strike the whole time."
-
[foxsportsarizona.com] D-backs edged by Astros 3-2 - There was a lot of focus on that play Hester made to flatten the Astros catcher, Jason Castro. They played together at Stanford, so I'm a little curious what their history is like.
Previews:
-
[miamiherald.com] San Francisco Giants (76-61) at Arizona Diamondbacks (56-81) - Thanks to the Padres slide, the Giants are now just a game out of first for the division title. And they never even say thank you for all those times we beat San Diego.
-
[cbssports.com] Giants-Diamondbacks Preview - Madison Bumgarner has one start against the DBacks, back in July, and he kept us to two runs in seven innings, so we'll need to do better than that.
-
[mlb.com] Giants look to continue climb vs. D-backs - Ian Kennedy is 5-2 since the All Star break? Obviously, someone knows how to win.
Dbacks News:
-
[dbacks.com] Kroenke knows he has to wait turn in 'pen - Kroenke's parents are waiting in town for his debut- hard to know when it'll happen if you're in the bullpen.
-
[azcentral.com] Ryan Roberts’ low-rent housing in Reno - Where did Ryan Roberts live during his last trip to Reno? The clubhouse. As long as he didn't get caught. The glamor of professional baseball!
-
[dbacks.com] Johnson's homer strikes a kid in the stands - If you missed the unfortunate victim of Kelly Johnson's home run yesterday, here's a video recap. I missed that they gave him a contract, someone must have been talking over the game. (Or everyone.)
Around Baseball:
-
[fangraphs.com] Felix Is King - Over his last six starts, Felix Hernandez has thrown 45 innings and allowed 1 earned run.
-
[mlb.com] Twins win the game on disputed final out - Without a doubt, one of the weirdest ends to a game you will see this season.
-
[yahoo.com] Padres just scratch their heads as losing streak reaches 10 - Ten straight losses. Ah, that's fun.
-
[mlb.com] Emotional Mazeroski honored with statue - A great tribute to a great player- watch the video of his speech.

Wow, what a humble guy! Living in the clubhouse…now that’s unusual but I could see why. With the economy the way it is, not everyone has the luxury of a nice place while going back and forth between the minors and the big club. Here’s to Ryan for sticking it out and keeping a positive attitude through it all! This just makes me like him even more!

...?
What does the economy have to do with how much he makes? Dude’s making 400 Gs. Actually, the lousy economy makes it EASIER for him to get a nice place, because property values in both Nevada and Arizona (the two states hit hardest by the housing crash) are still severely depressed.
