SnakeBytes, 9/1: Walk Up Edition
So, we've won five out of six, while helping drive the Padres into the longest losing streak of the season. We should keep this up.
Recaps:
-
[dbacks.com] Five-run fifth lifts D-backs to win vs. Padres - "We've seemed to stop a lot of the big innings through our pitching and making plays and not making mistakes." It's amazing how that'll help a team.
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks' Ian Kennedy corrects plan early in win over San Diego Padres - Kennedy and Montero certainly seem to have patched things up after that little spat a while back- great job adjusting to the Padres last night.
-
[foxsportsarizona.com] Post-Game Report (Aug. 31): Kennedy finds another way to beat San Diego - "I tried to rely on throwing my curve ball for strikes. It would have been a lot harder if I couldn’t throw that for strikes. Luckily it did."
-
[signonsandiego.com] Padres lose sixth straight game - Great picture of Chris Denorfia looking upset after Kelly Johnson's defensive clinic in the sixth inning.
DBacks News:
-
[beyondtheboxscore.com] The Only Team With Five 3+ WAR Position Players? Arizona - That's just weird. Besides, Upton? Reynolds? Any AZ Central commenter worth their bile could tell you those guys are awful.

-
[minorleaguebaseball.com] Aces, D-backs Renew Player Development Contract - So that's at least two seasons where we won't have to retrain ourselves to say someone is on the bus to [insert new city here]. Whew.
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks call up 4 players as rosters expand - Tony Abreu, Brandon Allen, and Carlos Rosa are up from Reno, and Leo Rosales is back from the DL.
-
[al.com] Chattanooga Lookouts deal setback to Mobile BayBears in race for Southern League playoff berth - While the Diamondbacks may be out of it, the same isn't necessarily true for their affiliates. The BayBears have a two game lead in the wild card race with six games left.
-
[dbacks.com] Drew beginning to have success vs. lefties - 11 for 16 is a pretty good run against lefties.
Also, if you haven't, check out Rockstarr's fanpost about walk up music. I'm always curious about that sort of thing, so it's cool to have a whole list.
Around Baseball:
-

-
[si.com] Steve Rushin on his childhood job with the Minnesota Twins - Rushin remembers his time working in the concession stands in the late '70s. A cool look back.
-
[chicagotribune.com] Ramirez is tired, his act's stale - Manny spoke Spanish at his first interview, requiring a translator. Yeah, Chicago, this is what you've signed up for.
-
[azstarnet.com] Doctors' orders for Morneau: Stay home - It has been nearly two months since Morneau suffered from his concussion, and he hasn't played since.
-
[East Valley Tribune] Cactus League exhibit gets $5K to spend at Pink Pony auction - More than 400 pieces of baseball memorabilia once inside Scottsdale’s famed Pink Pony Steakhouse and Saloon will be on the auction block Saturday, and a local historical organization has been given up to $5,000 to spend on items relating to the history of spring training in Arizona.
Two guys you probably hadn't heard much of last year will face off this afternoon as we fight for the sweep while the Padres try to level off from their nose dive. Here's to more of what we've seen the past few days.

And elsewhere
Roy Oswalt no-hitting the Dodgers into the sixth. But he’s already at 87 pitches after five, so a complete game seems unlikely.

because 140 pitch no hitters are unheard of, right?

At 87 pitches through 5
He’d be on pace for closer to a 160 pitches, if he wanted to close out the game.

And broken up
With two outs in the sixth.
