SnakeBytes, 8/9: Rushed Edition
You ever have one of those days that just doesn't go the way you planned? Of course you know what I'm talking about, you watch the Diamondbacks. Well, they happen. And yesterday was on of them for our boys in Sedona red. We hoped for sweep, but got swatted instead.
Recaps:
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks routed by San Diego Padres - It's hard to say one play was a turning point when we lost by nine runs, but Gibson has his suspicions.
-
[fanster.com] Latos too much for Diamondbacks in 10-1 loss to Padres - Maybe the team is Latos-intolerant.
-
[dbacks.com] Saunders suffers first loss for D-backs - After his two great previous starts, Saunders wasn't really on his game, and he admitted that freely.
Previews:
-
[cbssports.com] Diamondbacks-Brewers Preview - You know the last time we beat the Brewers? May 2, 2009. Our winning pitcher was some guy named Dan Haren, and somebody called Chad Qualls picked up the save? I don't remember either of those guys.
-
[miamiherald.com] Arizona Diamondbacks (43-69) at Milwaukee Brewers (53-59) - Our last series against Milwaukee, they outscored us 26-6. Let's try to improve on that.
DBacks News:
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks' Chris Young, Kelly Johnson top candidates for comeback award - They probably won't get the attention, since they're on a bad team, but the turnaround they've put together is really impressive.
-
[foxsportsarizona.com] Post-Game Report (Aug. 8): D-Backs see future? - Jack Magruder looks at how the Padres have recovered from their rough season last year, and asks if the Diamondbacks might rework their rotation the same way.
-
[hardballtimes.com] Did the Diamondbacks get enough for Dan Haren? - Again, we get the question- did we get enough in our trade to the Angels? In summary: "The Diamondbacks probably could have got a little bit more for the rights to Haren, but in the end the package they received is at least a respectable return."
Around Sports:
-
[yahoo.com] Scapegoated in Seattle: Mariners give Don Wakamatsu the boot - So long, Wakamatsu. I'll miss you, and not just because I liked to pretend your name was the noise the Japanese version of Fozzie Bear would make. (But at least partially because of that.)
-
[cbs8.com] Giants’ Sanchez has a prediction for the San Diego Padres - I'm always interested to see what players are going to mouth off and give their opponent something to talk about. This time, it's ZOMG!Sanchez.
-
[BBC] Finalist dies at World Sauna event in Finland - The dangers of extremely stupid sports.
Well, that'll tide you over for a couple hours, right? We face off against the Brewers, and here's to breaking our long losing streak against Wisconsin's second-best-loved team. (Well, professionally.) (Well, maybe third- how did the Bucks do last year?) Go DBacks!

[BBC] Finalist dies at World Sauna event in Finland – The dangers of extremely stupid sports.
I’ve only been in a sauna once, in South Carolina, and I can’t imagine people who do this competitively.

There was a story on it a while back

"It's not the despair, Laura. I can take the despair. It's the hope I can't stand." -- Brian Stimpson
Yeah, as I recall we included that in Snakebytes
That’s why I bothered to include the follow-up.
"It's a fez. I'm wearing a fez now. Fezes are cool."
This is such a turrable idea.
Intentionally physiologically destroying your body in order to win a contest?

Padre fans....
while their numbers are tiny in our park compared to others, they are really, really annoying. Imagine a day at the GaslampBall and there you go…..
the thing is, is feels dirty to say go giants……
Anyone who attempts to generate random numbers by deterministic means is, of course, living in a state of sin.

What's wrong with GLB?
Never really checked it out.
Leads/ties blown by the Diamondbacks bullpen in '10: 33
There was a flame war between the two sites. Apparently, it got to the point where GLB would ban anyone just for being a Dbacks fan (so basically for no reason). That is all I know, as it was before my time on this particular site.
Nice strikeout!
IIRC
There was some discussion about CoJack getting plunked?

That may have been later

Yeah
that was long after, when they demanded that CoJack get plunked for “swinging too hard”.

Mods are assholes,
most of their users are 13 year olds, it’s more of a dating site than anything else.
Mr. Science Boy
Dating site?
Oops.
I should have a mfin theme song.
