Gameday Thread, #133: 8/31 vs. Padres
San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks, Aug 31, 2010 9:40 PM EDT
|
|
Here's to a repeat of last Friday's little slaughter, were we clubbed Correia around like he was a baby seal, while Kennedy one-hit the Padres for seven shutout innings. The resulting 11-5 victory started the Padres' on their current five-game losing streak, so given the results of that last match-up, I'm hopeful we can inflict some more pain on them this evening.
- Stephen Drew ss .276
- Rusty Ryal 1b .279
- Kelly Johnson 2b .276
- Chris Young cf .268
- Miguel Montero c .279
- Mark Reynolds 3b .215
- Gerardo Parra rf .244
- Ryan Church lf .186
- Ian Kennedy p .156
We will, however, have to do it without Justin Upton who is not in the starting line-up for this one. However, Nick Piecoro Tweets, "Gibson doesn't consider Upton's shoulder injury serious. Says Upton has taken swings in the cage and probably will be available tonight." No Adam LaRoche either tonight - the second consecutive game it has been Ryal at first-base instead - not sure what the issue is there.
Won't be about tonight - it's IZW time - but a quick warning. All SB Nation sites will be offline for about 30 minutes, starting at around 11:00 PM EDT, for what is being described as "routine maintenance." Sprankton is on the recap and is aware, so will hopefully get some kind of recap up before the shutdown in question. Fingers crossed this one doesn't go into extra innings!

Though I don’t think I learned much about it in college. Not in English classes anyway.

Things could be better but...
Things are going reallllly good in my math class so im excited about that.
I am Angry and when BattleMoses is angry Mr. Bigglesworth is upset, and when Mr. Bigglesworth is upset people DIE!!!!!!!!!
I had a professor tell me today (while discussing the final)
if your presentation and paper is completely incoherent you’re looking at the C range. He said it like it was a bad thing. Any other class in the world if you completely bomb a final you get an F not a C. So I’m feeling pretty good about this class
You're taking a math class? Where at?
Things will get better, hang in there :)

Starting negotiations at 7.5 mil is crazy
he’s worthless until he can demonstrate that he can get major league hitters out and has durability.

It's hard to be a fan of a spoiler team
I mean, best case scenario, we send the Padres into a tailspin, and then, what- the Giants win the division? Not much better, in my eyes.

Its not about that
it really is about pride, principle, and sending a message to those other teams that they had better enjoy this year because next year isn’t going to be as much fun with a talented Diamondbacks ballclub in the mix.

I'd rather see the Padres in a tailspin
And the Giants and Dodgers completely crumble!
Of course then the Rockies would take the division which I’d love

Actually I'd like to see a world series in the west
Partially for weather reasons and also because it’d be so much fun to annoy the east coast people.
Texas vs. Colorado?

Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. The Rockies already embarrased the NL West by not showing up to the World Series

That was then, this is now. They are 3 years older and wiser. The Rockies may surprise everyone

A critical hallmark for a rebuilding team
is being the team that the teams in the pennant drive HATE to play, and that’s the D’Backs now.

Great point! Gibby really has gotten an improvement out of these guys! It’s good to see them playing better down the stretch!

Then you’re burning six years of IPK plus Mark’s time for two years of Greinke. We’re still going to suck next year, so you’re really burning all that for 2012 of Greinke. Why?
"Robin, some people die of old age. Some people get crushed by a tank shaped like a giant Rubber Ducky. That's life."
Oh, and
Greinke’s making $13.5 million next year and the year after that, so you’d also be murdering most of the payroll we cleared with the trades.
"Robin, some people die of old age. Some people get crushed by a tank shaped like a giant Rubber Ducky. That's life."

what i mean is....
are you okay with reynolds and a prospect for greinke?
cuz if you are … we have plenty of prospects who could be like IPK in a year….
we have no prospects who can be like greinke
we have a couple prospects who could be like reynolds
by blue bulldog on Aug 31, 2010 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions
yes....
ian kennedy, if we’re lucky, is a 2 WAR pitcher next year. mark reynolds, if we’re lucky, is a 4 WAR hitter next year.
zach greinke is having a down year. and yet he’s still managed 5 WAR. he’s also publicly talked about how frustrating it is to pitch in KC. coming to a weaker league, with better defense behind him, he could easily be an 8 WAR pitcher next year.
