Don't know what this means but suspect we'll hear something about how this throwing session went. I would really like to see him pitch in a game or two this year to know where he stands. Call me an eternal optimist, but I still think he's got it and could really help our rotation. Has any one else heard what his progress has been and the results of todays throwing session?

They talked about it in today's game
Seems like it went well – the only thing Webb said felt weird was pitching out of the stretch. I imagine we’ll see what happens over the next day or two and how he feels, but given we now have barely 30 games left, I’d still be quite surprised if we see him in a meaningful contest this season. Maybe he’ll pitch in the Arizona Fall League!

Don't you mean The Injury?

apparently webb was ecstatic with the simulated game
mlb.com is reporting that his fastball is back to the low 80s, and stott claims his changeup is really good
who knows…maybe we’ll be trying to sign webb for cheap next year
I, for one,
Am getting really sick of Brandon Webb.
I’d sign him for nothing more than a minor league contract. Let him go.

I'm not sick of him
…but I don’t want to see the team toss another $8 mil down the crapper for another year of “I’m feeling better and really excited, I should be on the mound in 6 weeks” announcements.
I say: if he’s a type A or B free agent, offer him arbitration and let him know he’s going to be lowballed. At least we’ll get something in return.
He's not a type anything
And no reason to offer him arb even if he was – he’d accept and get $10MM+.

He's not a type A or B
Arbitration rankings are based on the last two years of baseball, and, obviously, he’s done nothing.

maybe I'm just afraid to let go
but if he can prove he can throw the ball next year and we can sign him on the cheap, I’d like to keep him around. But I’m really into nostalgia so……..

Yeah...
I’d like to re-sign Brandon Webb, but I also like really cheesy Route 66 memorabilia.

And as they say
it’s in your DNA?
And when something falls out of place, I take my time, I put it back.
I still think if he’d accept a cheap incentive laden contract… he would be worth the risk… IF he shows he can pitch at least a little this year.. There is still tremendous upside… IF he can prove he’s healthy… but of course, that’s the biggest if………
Professional Lurker... if you see this, there may be a problem..
i don't think anyone
would disagree with signing webb to a cheap incentive laden contract
those types of contracts are just rare

Moorad liked cost certainty
Byrnes may have liked it as well, or taken it from Moorad, but I believe it was his brainchild.

The Injury himself
might disagree.

According to MLBTR he says he wants to stay.
I am Angry and when BattleMoses is angry Mr. Bigglesworth is upset, and when Mr. Bigglesworth is upset people DIE!!!!!!!!!
Well
There’s a better chance of that now than before, considering the injury history. I can’t imagine any other team (except maybe the Mets) offering a guy who’s been shelved two years a deal that ISN’T incentive laden.

Jonathan Maurer back on the Intarwebz
Trying to build up his client’s value.
Webb won’t be signing cheaply. In an email to MLBTR, his agent Jonathan Maurer said: “Webb loves Arizona and they will be considered highly, but Brandon WILL be looking at an incentive-based contract [with] a guaranteed base where [Brad] Penny and [Rich] Harden at $7.5MM, [Ben] Sheets at $10MM and [Tim] Hudson’s $9.33MM average annual value are all conversation starters. Webb, when healthy, is one of the top pitchers in the game. Arizona is a great place to play, ([though] it has always been a hitter’s park, Webb has dominated there) but I anticipate significant interest in what is a very healthy Brandon Webb, with his signature life back on all his pitches.”
This sounds a lot like a guy who is gone but doesn’t want to burn the last bridge in case he finds that the market for his star isn’t anywhere remotely near where he thinks it is.

i posted this comment elsewhere
but i think there will be a market for webb. look at how much these other guys got, and next year’s starting pitching market is pretty weak outside of cliff lee.
i’m guessing that means webb will be able to get an 8 million with incentives one year contract.
if we somehow get webb for 8 million, and laroche for 8 million, combined with our arb raise guys (saunders, drew, kj, miggy) we would basically have our starting five pitchers and all our position players plus at least 3 relievers (carrasco, demel, vasquez) for around $53 million
while i do think webb for 8 million is a bit of a risk, and slightly more expensive than i would hope to get him at, it might be better than the other options, as next year’s starting pitching market is basically cliff lee and the rest

One issue that I see,
besides the obvious fact that we’re probably not competitive next year, is the fact that he’d so obviously just be using a one year contract to prove that he’s healthy in the hopes of a long-term FA deal starting in 2012.
I don’t like being used like that.

Look at how much these other guys got
And how HORRIBLE all but one of them has been for their teams. Penny: hurt. Harden: hurt. Sheets: hurt. Hudson: epic. But Hudson’s deal was signed when he was intact.

I do.
It comes off as pompous and delusional to publicly announce something like that, and he’s going to destroy any reputation Webb had left in this state.
Is he right about Webb’s market value? Well, probably? But that also shows you how stupid those market forces are.
