SnakeBytes, 8/27: By the Bay Edition
Well, our stay in San Diego wasn't a complete disaster. An offensive outburst and a great start from IPK helps clear some of the bad memories of the first two games, so hopefully the team kept memories in their heads while preparing for tonight's game.
Recaps:
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks pummel San Diego Padres - "The offense came through. That makes it easier on you." Or is that you know how to win?
-
[dbacks.com] Kennedy leaves Padres shaking heads - Kennedy's numbers against San Diego have been pretty amazing this year: 1.59 ERA, 27 Ks and only 5 walks.
-
[foxsportsarizona.com] Kennedy fans 12 as D-backs cruise 11-5 over Padres - "When we got four runs, he turned into a different pitcher. If you get the lead in this park, you've got to pound the zone." Four runs? Guy obviously didn't realize we only need three to win.
-
[miamiherald.com] Arizona Diamondbacks (50-78) at San Francisco Giants (71-57) - The Giants have a half game lead over Philadelphia in the Wild Card race, and are 4-6 over their last ten games.
-
[cbssports.com] Diamondbacks-Giants Preview - Timmeh has lost his last four starts, the longest losing streak of his career. Barry Enright is 3-0 in his last seven starts.
-
[foxsportsarizona.com] D-Backs at Giants, 7 p.m. - Lincecum says "[I]n my mind I feel like I'm close to getting back." Take your time, man. No hurry.
-
[mccoveychronicles.com] Giants/Diamondbacks Series Preview - MCC disparages Stephen Drew and politely offers to let us trade him to the Giants for Eugenio Velez and Chris Ray. Yeah, uh we'll keep that in mind.
DBacks News:
-
[dbacks.com] Enright relishes chance to battle aces - Rodrgio Lopez kept drawing aces in the early season, but now he's passed that on to Enright. Of course, Enright's handled it pretty well.
-
[scout.com] Kennedy and Hudson and Enright. Oh My! - Our young pitching is looking pretty good, but the Diamondbacks are taking a cautious approach. "I guess when they get their butt kicked, we'll know what we have, because we'll see how they bounce back."
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks aim to hire permanent GM before end of season - Hall says they started interviewing some of the candidates earlier this month, and they'll consider "a handful" of candidates, including DiPoto.

The AP is reporting that Strasburg is to undergo Tommy John surgery
Still, some shamelessly spin this as a ‘delay, rather than a disaster. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s a disaster of epic proportions that was entirely preventable had he received quality coaching in college and again in the pros. Will he come back? Who knows. Many do, but many do not.
The Great and Mighty....
Even
if he does come back, this is awful for the Nats. Losing a guy for a year before he’s even played a year, and he’s owed $15 million? That’s a tough break.
'Skins, I forbid you from hitting on Ramona!
It was entirely preventable too, imo
check out this delusional bit of denial: http://www.sbnation.com/2010/8/27/1654388/stephen-strasburg-injury-elbow-surgery-tommy-john-washington-nationals
“…nobody could see this coming…” Are you kidding? Even an amateur like myself saw all the way across the country. The kid has flawed mechanics and throws max all the time…the necessary recipe for a disastrous arm injury.

Yeah
I was just reading up pitching mechanics and his was pretty ugly. I think the only thing that should be surprising is that it happened under a season, not that it happened at all.
'Skins, I forbid you from hitting on Ramona!
The best mechanics I had ever seen for a power pitcher
were Nolan Ryan’s. His windup and delivery tapes should be required viewing for every pitcher who throws a plus fastball.

This is as good as it gets
You absolutely don’t notice any jerkiness…its completely smooth and natural. Notice who he’s demonstrating mechanics to, also.

In other injury worries
I think Rob Dibble might pull a hamstring as he backpedals from his comments Monday.
"It's a fez. I'm wearing a fez now. Fezes are cool."
i hope more do than more do not...
our boy jarrod parker is going through the same thing…
