Tony Capo on the Edwin Jackson Trade Rumor
According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Chicago White Sox, Washington Nationals, and Diamondbacks are looking into the possibility of three team trade. The reported deal would send slugger Adam Dunn to Chicago, pitcher Edwin Jackson to Washington, and a bunch of prospects to Arizona.
I say do it. Trade Edwin Jackson.
Right now Edwin Jackson is 6-10 with an ERA in the 5's. In 08 he win 14 games for the AL champion Tampa Bay Rays and in 09 he was an all star for the Detroit Tigers. His current stats are similar to his 07 season (5-15 5.76 ERA) with the 66-96 Tampa Bay Rays.
He is making 2.2M this year and it might rise next year, it just makes sense to trade him and see who Arizona gets. Brandon Webb is on his way back so right now its a smart move to start moving guys like Jackson and start building for 2011 because if they're gonna be good in 2011 with Krik Gibson as manager, the Arizona pitching staff must be rebuild and remodeled.

I wouldn't mind if he was traded
But I just want to point out a couple of things…
First of all, trading Edwin for a “bunch of prospects” may seem like a good idea, but you may want to withhold judgment until you find out who the prospects are.
You may also be a little surprised to know that Jackson hasn’t pitched terribly this year. Sure, he’s been a disappointment, but when you check the numbers you can’t expect much more from him. Everyone knows his ERA last year was a fluke – his .281 BABIP was the lowest he’s had in his career for a full season. His surprisingly low BB/9 helped him bolster his best WAR of his career at 3.5.
So far this year, he’s only put up a 1.7 WAR but he’s sporting a decent 4.31 FIP and 4.27 xFIP. His BABIP has returned to just around his career average at .313. The insane number of wild pitches and his new found love for walking batters has hurt his ERA some, but that too is close to his career average (5.01 this season, 4.72 career – ERA+ of 89, 95 career).
Additionally, just for clarification, he’s actually making $4.6 million this season and it will likely rise to the $5ish or $6 million range after arbitration next year. As for Brandon Webb, there’s still no timetable for him to return. If anything it’s still being doubted that he’ll be able to pitch in 2010.
Wear your own fur.
his espn page said 2.2M and it also said that brandon webb might return as a reliever in order to speed up the rehab process
Looks like we were both wrong
Via Cot’s Baseball Contracts, Edwin avoided arbitration by signing a two year deal worth $13.35 million.
- 2 years/$13.35M (2010-11)
- signed by Arizona 2/14/10 (avoided arbitration, $6.25M-$4.6M)
- $0.8M signing bonus
- 10:$4.2M, 11:$8.35M
As for Webby, the latest news came during yesterday’s game when they announced that Webb had to cut short his bullpen session because his arm “wasn’t loosening up.”

I wish there was a middle option.
I am going to chose, “NO! Hes just having an off year..like Joe Saunders” but my real opinion is to keep him through the season. In the offseason, see what interest there is, if none then welcome back.
Nice strikeout!
I dunno
if there are any teams as inept at acquiring equal talent in exchange for talent its the White Sox and Nationals. Perhaps it is best that we deal with these two teams than any others at this moment. We’re in a pretty vulnerable position as an organization and if anything inept teams dealing with inept teams increases our odds of coming out as winners on this one.

eel on Tony Capo on the Edwin Jackson Rumor
I’d love this trade. One of the best AAA pitching prospects for a pitcher who should be entering his prime, but only has one great season under his belt? That’s a worthwhile risk.
I have to wonder though.. Brandon Webb is on his way back? For us? He’ll be a FA this offseason, and it’s hard to see us signing him, considering that he’s a likely injury risk now, with his untested shoulder/labrum.
Perhaps with all of this salary that we are dropping, we can get Cliff Lee. And a nice LF. Perhaps Werth.
I agree
I like who Arizona got for Jackson but I can’t help but think he’ll end up like Ian Kennedy.
If Webb is fully healthy before the end of the season then I’m sure they can use the option in his contract if he has one. If hes not healthy he would be a cheap pickup.
And if he's not healthy
he won’t be a cheap pickup.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like mouth?

Can we dial back the vitriol? The guy isn’t doing anything trollish. Just seems to have a more old school take on the game. Let’s disagree while still showing him respect, please.
